ANTIOCH — Police are investigating the shooting death of an 18-year-old Antioch man early Friday morning.

The man's body was found in front of a housing complex, but investigators have little information about what happened, police said.

Authorities were called just before 3:50 a.m. to an apartment complex in the 2300 block of Spanos Street after a neighbor called about hearing gunfire and then seeing a "motionless" man lying on the grass outside.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the man dead from at least one gunshot wound. Police were withholding his identity until they had notified family members of his death, according to the Contra Costa Coroner's office.

Police had taped off the area Friday morning while they continued to investigate the scene, and neighbors who gathered on the street said they hadn't heard anything.

The shooting marked the city's fifth homicide of the year, matching the total at this time last year.

Further details about the homicide were not immediately available. Anyone with information is asked to contact Antioch police investigators at 925-779-6939.
