Tonight, another party, another shooting, and the good times just keep on rolling in Antioch.
The party was Catanzaro and somebody decided to go by and fire some rounds. When APD arrived, the crowd decided to walk over to the 7-11 on Lone Tree & Hillcrest. More fighting, screaming and yelling happened there. When APD arrived there they ended up needing Brentwood PD for assistance. From my upstairs, I got to see and hear the mess. Most of the kids involved had to be 15-18 years old. From the scanner, most of the names ran, were from Richmond and most of those had been arrested for something in the past. Before the police gained control, it looked and sounded like a riot was going on. A couple of weeks ago, a bunch of kids showed up at the same 7-11 and they all rushed in the store grabbed items and ran out the door. They were gone before APD could arrive. I wouldn't blame the owners' of the store if they started locking the doors after dark and do business through a window.
I don't quite understand why everytime there's a party, it seems somebody needs to show up and crash it or show up and start shooting. And to top it off, most of them are not from around here. To make matters worse, these kids have no respect at all for the police, other people, or for that matter, themselves. They looked and sounded like idiots. I can't believe Antioch has gotten so bad.

I heard the sirens racing by and figured it had to be another shooting or something. I am sorry you had to witness all that madness. From what I've read about - some of these people that throw these parties advertise them on their social networking sites and stuff and then they get crashed. And I am sick and tired of reading about thugs from other cities coming here and starting problems like this. I hope the rest of your evening remains peaceful. Maybe they need to look at hiring security guards for that 7-11?

Holy cow. I wondered what all the sirens were for.
Isn't this the second drive-by shooting on Catanzaro in the past year/six months or so? I wonder if it's the same house as the previous drive-by.
We're out walking on Catanzaro regularly. Methinks we'll be changing our route.

I am so god damm sick of the [bleep]! Some day I want to get the hell out of Antioch, but it is very unlikely I will sell my house.
Have a reasonable party, but I just don't understand why idiots cannot get along...oh it is probably because they are idioits.
So today a neighbor was showing their house and I alway hope and pray for a good new neighbor. As I leave my neighborhood, 15 thugs were hanging out on a corner. [bleep]! Why? So I imange that person was no longer interested in the house.
Go get a fricken job and do something productive than hang around a corner like a bunch of strippers!
I am absoutely disgusted!

I live very near Cantanzaro and was awoken from a dead sleep by the blaring sirens. When we bought this house 2 years ago we had moved from downtown Antioch, thinking this area was so much safer. How wrong we were. My children rarely went outside when we lived downtown, I thought by moving here they could go outside and play. Well guess what they can't. I'm so angry at the people that have turned this city into a crap hole. Angry enough that I want to buy a gun and carry it with me for safety and then shoot the ahole that trys to rob me! We can't even go on the trail by our house because of all the robberies. Drive down Cantanzaro or go to Knoll crest park and you will see who is doing all the damage. The same goes for downtown Antioch. People think it's racism if you say one ethnicty is causing most of the problems. It's not racism, it statistics! These are the thugs from Richmond etc that come here and screw up our city. We need people to fight back! Where are all the people to protest the violence in our city!!! Maybe it's time for vigilante justice, fight fire with fire. I don't like violence but I'm sick and tired of being a prisoner in my own city. It's not safe. Being peaceful hasn't worked, so try something else. I think this city's good townspeople need to arm themselves. We have the right to bear arms so why not!? Why can't we stand together as a group, we have a much louder voice. Everyone just wants to hide behind their walls in fear. Nothing will ever change in this city unless we react, everyone is too busy ducking there heads and hiding fearing retribution from these punks.

I hear what you're saying and I totally agree with you. I grew up in Richmond and graduated from Richmond High in the mid 80's. I know what the problem is, and I can tell you if something doesn't get fixed pretty quick, we're going to be in for a lot worse around here.
One thing that needs to be done, is we need to make sure the kids quit announcing their parties on MySpace and other social networking sites. That's what gets the wrong people from out of town heading out here.
By the way, has anybody seen anything in the Times regarding Friday night's mess? I haven't.

Let's try to get rid of the social networking sites. We lived without them, why do we need them. All it does is cause problems and kids do not care what problems it causes them getting into college or arrested for lewd photos. Colleges and employers monitor those sites and check applications against them. We would be far better off without them.

well, i disagree about "social networking sites"
we can't stop the computer age....come on now.
what needs to be done is, schools need to have strict rules and regulation in regards to those dances.
nobody in, and nobody out. parent volunteers/ chaperons. if kids need/ want to leave..only released to parents. participation only with school id. only one guest per student. sign in/ out log. no offensive clothing, no offensive dancing.
schools need to have/ be at the best security standards. suddenly they could install the needed lighting? pay the teachers at least the same what other teachers earn. rhs is about 20% below average.
I will keep my GUNS, my FREEDOM, my MONEY, you can keep the CHANGE

It's not so much school dances as it is parties at people's homes. The shooting on Catanzaro happened at a house party. People not known by the people throwing the party decided to stop by and crash it. Words are exchanged, somebody pushes somebody, then instead someone pulls out a gun and the madness begins.
Listening to the scanner on weekend nights, I'm beginning to realize this is happening more and more. Usually it's a couple of thrown punches and some yelling back and forth, but sometimes somebody pulls out a gun and decides to let loose.
Unfortunately, Friday night, the party goers decided to take a walk to 7-11 and continue the fight there. While they were at it they also decided to shoplift and when the police arrived, the decided to start something with them too. I was an eyewitness to it, and I can't believe the total disrespect these kids had for police officers...it was sad and disgusting.

So true. According to my son & daughter, sometimes a party notice is posted on a site like MySpace and you can only imagine how many people can see it in a matter of seconds after it's posted. And with internet becoming more available on cell phones, people can be anywhere and see these notices. Of course when these uninvited people show up and are turned away, the fireworks begin. My wife's supervisor lost a nephew 2 years ago here in Antioch when a situation much like the one I described above happened. It happened right across the street from Jack London elementary.

Haven't heard a peep from CC Times. Does Antioch area NOT have a reporter or has everyone thrown in the towel on my town? I used to love downtown Antioch - the cute little bungalows I dreamed of one day purchasing . . .and the big grand houses off Lone Tree so far out of reach. Now? I dream of anywhere but here. Antioch has been destroyed by roaming gangs of thugs that have no regard for human lives they destroy. It's sickening.

Did anyone else hear more shooting last night (Saturday, 11/7)? Was upstairs with a west-facing window open when I heard three gunshots at about 9:50 p.m. It sounded pretty close by, perhaps coming from the general vicinity of Hillcrest and Lone Tree. Then, about 10 minutes later, there were five more gunshots that sounded further away, maybe down by DVHS/Prewett water park.
I never did hear any sirens, so assume nobody was hurt, but criminy. I worry about anyone being out after dark nowadays. It makes me really nervous for my son, who works mostly evening shifts at two different jobs, and sometimes for my husband, who occasionally decides to go pick up something at the store after dark. Eee-freakin'-gads.
Any of you scanner folks hear anything going on at around that time last night?

spell.chic I live sort of in this area...Like I mentioned in my previous post we have some thugs that live here. Yesterday around 2PM there were about 15 kids lotering around black diamond waiting for some action. The kids dispersed and came back between 5 and 7 last night. There were at least 4 of us neighbors calling the police because they were loitering smoking weed...etc. Typically when this group of kid hang in these bunches in our hood they are up to no good. Honestly it never fails! So, my neighbors and I were talking last night and thought that something big was going to go down. I wonder if these thugs from my area wandered down to the area where you say there was more gun shots.

Trace... obviously you've been talking with your neighbors about this problem. You say thugs live in your neighborhood? Have you done anything about this other than call the police when they loiter? Why wait for "something big to go down"? Why not start action now? Get the thugs outta there. Call the cops on every little infraction. Do you see possible drug dealing going on? Call the cops. Do you see kids out when they should be in school? Call the cops. Do they have loud parties? Call the cops. Take down license plates, take photos, get evidence. Call the CAT team. Call the Section 8 office and report the house. Call the landlord every day and complain. TAKE ACTION. If we just sit around and complain that this city is going to hell in a handbasket, that's what's going to happen. Stand up and DO SOMETHING.
I don't mean to single you out, Trace... this goes for every person in Antioch with thugs in their neighborhoods. Don't put up with it. Kick the creeps out!

I heard the shots. I live really close to Lone Tree and Hillcrest. I had the scanner on, and they received several calls, but the calls were coming from everywhere...Country Hills, Prewet Ranch and Equestrian ( the sight of the 10/31 shooting) and some streets near Williamson Ranch and Indian Hills. They never did find anything.
Maybe we can get the city to offically rename South East Antioch, "Tombstone" or "OK Corral"...since it's beginning to to turn into a shooting gallery out here. Kevlar for Christmas should be a hot item this season.

pretty close to me as like the rest the others. I agree with all of you guys. All of us need to start calling the po-po more. Even when in doubt it does sound like firecrakers; I would or anyone should call. My dad said that sounded like a 9mil when all of us where home. You never know someones life could hang in the balance. One call makes a difference. So stand and fight.
LIKE I SAY to all: YOU DONT GO TO WORK FOR NOTHING TO BE OVER RUNNED By these stupid people.YOUR HARD earned money will go to waste if you do nothing at all.

You must live near me as I heard the too and waited for the sirens that never came. I wanted to call the cops but didn't know where the gunshots came from. I'm just terrified of the day that the gunshots come into my home.

We live off of Country Hills, between Hillcrest and Vista Grande, just west of Carmen Dragon Elementary School. Most of the people we see out walking seem like regular, ordinary people of all different backgrounds. Some of them are obviously hoodlums.
Very shortly after that shooting (knife attack?) out at Williamson Ranch Park recently, I thought for sure we'd accidentally stumbled across an incident either about to happen, or just freshly happened, as we approached the intersection of Lone Tree and Hillcrest. On three of the four corners were groups of 4-6 young people standing and facing the park, looking intently. That was pretty intimidating to suddenly find ourselves in the midst of a potential event, but nothing seemed to happen afterward. No emergency vehicles, no obvious escalation of whatever it was . . . but it was creepy as heck.
Judge, I haven't seen anything in the Times a'tall about Friday's incident, nor even a generic mention of shots fired last night. You'd think either one would rate a mention of some kind, but . . . I dunno, maybe that would just be fanning embers. It's a li'l frustrating either way.

Stand up and DO SOMETHING.
I am that person!
I stated that 4 of us neighbors were on the phone to APD for the loitering and weed smoking.
I am on the phone with APD frequently...and I mean frequently! I don't take any bull[bleep]. When I see loitering...I call the police. When I see weed being passed...I call the police. We have already had a drug house busted..no more dealing in our place. CAT team has been here for several homes, section 8 has been called...We have NW...All the plans are in place, It is up to everyone to help enforce the rules. So, I am the last person who does nothing.

Good for all of you!...Our street has been through all of that and if you stand together and call the police over and over it works. We know how to take care of things now and the first thing we do is call the police. We will not endure one day being forced to stay in our own homes. Keep notes of what happens too everyone, you will need it down the road!

Perfect! That's the kind of involvement we all should be doing. Glad to hear your neighborhood is organized and fighting back.
It's a pain in the rear we have to be this militant, but that's what it's going to take to bring our city back from this mess.

Sat night shots heard were on the scanner in the vicinity of county hills . Several calls of 3 BM's on bikes. APD never caught them but several calls came in. A call came in about a party near Bear Ridge >Numerous call came in for that and a shooting in Oakley too.
Friday night was crazy. When the party broke up the group went down to 7-11- The car APD was looking for was there too. Details are -These guys showed up at the party were turned away .They went out to their car removed a gun from the trunk and fired shots into the air. There was a description sent out and when APD arrive at 7-11 for the large crowd gathered there low and behold the idiots were there. The cops detained them and brought down witnesses from the party to identify. That was the good part. The scary part was the call for "all officers", then the all call for Brentwood PD. Some of this group moved down IN and Out and were there calls for fights and then to Raleys on sandcreek. There was call for both of the locations for unruly crowds. Why dont these people know when to go home.
I was really bummed after listening to this crap all night. Then Sat morning I go over to smart and final and a car over off Vista Grande pull out in front of me. Fine cut me off I am ok. Then when we get to the corner at Lonetree they stop and throw a glass bottle out of their window and it smashes on the sidewalk right on the corner. All I could think of was that kids walk there and people with their dogs walk there too. What trash some people are. I went home with a bad attitude but it was renewed when I saw a group of students and their families re-doing the flower beds at Diablo Vista Elem school. It reminded me that there is good out there sometimes you have to look very hard to find it. Don’t let these scumbags get us down. We are stonger and much smarter.
