Why did I read that as her wanting to know about the fireworks? The parade is a different matter. Depends how many entrants, how slow they go and whether they start on time.
Yeah, I really meant the parade. I know it starts at 7 and there is live music after that until the fireworks start at 9:30. We wanted to catch some of the parade but not be down there too early. Last year we were down at around 6 and got pretty restless while we waited.
I know the traffic coming home is a bummer but it feels like part of the tradition!
I always park my car for the fireworks in the parking lot just before you go over the tracks into the yacht harbor. there have always been porta potties in the yacht harbor parking lot. I guess they have been cut from the budget.(or maybe they were moved and I just don't see them?
There's porta-potties in the lot between the Campanil and Casino. Here's the scoop other than the porta potties that I just happened to see when I was down there looking at the big climbing rock wall. I'm not sure it says what time the parade ends though. Do they even do dress rehearsals on parades and even know when they end?
As we all know by now, the parade started at 7 pm and was great! And, the firworks started at 9:30 pm, end in a great cresendo around 10 pm.
The band playing at the foot of G Street was playign great music from the 60s and 70s and I was singing along with every song they played! They played right up until the fireworks started during their last song.
While there were drinks, snow cones, ice cream and popcorn for sale, it would have been nice to have had some food booths.
We parked in the AUSD offices parking lot and had got out of downtown fairly quickly!
The POW, Mothers of Military, the cute little gymnastic girls and a few others. The largest percentage of paraders were political. No bands, no horses, not even a military flag bearer? While we did enjoy our day as a family it was not a 4th of July for remembrance.
I didn't see the start of the parade (too busy chatting with people), so if there was no honor guard that would be a disappointment as the VFW Post has always provided it.
There were two "floats" with 5 or 6 piece bands on them that were actually pretty good.
I also thought it was great to with the East County Islamic Center and the Fil-AM Society marching in the parade. Both organizations have some very wonderful people in them.
It was a bit disaapointing to see that neither of the high school pands participate this year, as we all know they get together during the summer. The City Council should remember that the next time the AUSD comes begging for City money.
Hey! Antioch got snubbed by the Times this time around. How come there's no pictures from Antioch's 4th of July celebrations in the slide show on the Times main website page, but there is for nearly every other city? Granted some of those other parades look like they had some fancy stuff going on with their dancing horses and 20 foot tall stilt-walking Uncle Sam's, but surely Antioch had something worthy of having a slide included in there? I had a bad vantage point from where I was, but the little ballerina's were cute and the Floorshakers sounded great. How about a crowd shot? The Antioch Veteran's Day Parade had a lot of pictures in the Times slide show, so why the drubbing now?
If I'm not wrong, wasn't this mostly a Democrat Parade? The newspaper would have had to give equal time to a Republican Parade.
Arne, you didn't really miss anything at the beginning. LOL I guess the bands weren't doing their stuff when they passed us. Must have been saving themselves for the judges booth.

If the fireworks start at 9:00 as planned, it should end at 9:30.
p.s. If you drive down there you should be home by 11:00,

The wind is supposed to die down a little. The temperature was nice, not too hot, but hang on to those red red hats so they don't blow away.

Couldn't those women make an exception and have a third of them wear white hats and the other third wear blue ones?

Totally agree! We didn't stay for the parade afterall. I didn't need to see the same "for Congress" signs I already see all around town.

I was told by a parade organizer that the color guard cancelled that morning.
