6'2, 205, from Florida where he came from a spread O to comming into Raiders camp and being impressive...

He has caught the eye of Jerry rice, and a few others, he steps up and shows leadership for a rookie. I like what I hear and see out of him. He is quick and can burn a receiver can run routes very well, my sleeper wide receiver. I hope he and bey can become the best of the best. Raiders have alot to prove, and alot is riding on this season.

whats your take on the murphy so far

From what we know thus far Murphy could be the best receiver we drafted this year.

You can't say that he's going to be a stud because he came from Florida anymore than you can say that DHB is going to be a bust because he came from Maryland.  The real proof is going to be in how they BOTH play in August.

Personally, I just want to see what kind of team this really is, and the only way to see that is to start watching some games and seeing what the coaches are really all about.

I actually think Murphy is the guy to watch out for. He was under the radar in college as a #2 and had no problem with it, but when they needed him he came up big. He is a big fast WR, but I think we will use him more on moderate routes because he has great hands. We will get to see though.

Its exciting cause it sounds like we have some good young WRs that have potential, but then again Detroit and Charles Rodgers, Mike Willams and Roy Williams and I thought they were going to be a force in the league and Roy is the only one still playing.

What do I think?

Schilenz  - Too good to keep out of the lineup (...and don't forget I've been telling you that since pre-season 2008)

Walker  - His contract guarantees he'll be on the roster.

Higgins  - The real home run hitter...he has EARNED the third spot.

DHB -  2009 is the first year of  his scholarship. In spite of his draft position  you shouldn't  expect much from him this year.

Barring injury  that leaves us with at most one more WR  position to be contested by Shields, Murphy, Watkins, Holland,  and  Nick Miller.  In theory Will Franklin,  Sammie Parker, and  Shawn Bayes are also competing but  don't expect them to  be given any serious consideration unless there are multiple injuries.  Even if there are multiple injuries during camp/pre-season  it may not help their prospects.  Drew Bennett,  Matt Jones, or Jerry Porter could come in on a moments notice and these guys would not  move up on the food chain.

Murphy, Miller, and Bayes are rookies.   If they get so much as a hangnail during camp they may be stashed on IR.  The practice squad is also an option for them.

From what I've read it sounds like Arman Shields 2008 = Louis Murphy 2009.

If Jamarcus gets the majority of snaps this season then don't expect any of these players to put up stats that are comensurate with their talent level.

I thought Garcia was starting? lol...  If your prediction in your previous post(s) holds true, we'll have 3 or more games to compare their stats with JRuss vs Garcia.  That will tell the tale on the talent level of our WRs & TEs.  Of course, I'm rooting for JRuss to elevate the talent of those around him.  I may be dreamin' but, I'd rather error on the side of optimism.

Keep up all the great barbs... I mean, work, man,

That was a prescription not a prediction...   What else would I prescribe?

This pre-season Jamarcus would play in all 4 games and instead of throwing 50 passes the entire pre-season he could expect to throw more like 100...and that is if he only plays half the time. Pass on every down if you have to. The running backs don't need a lot of practice and  our passing game   needs  all the work it can get in all phases.

Although I would  tentatively plan on a lot of 2 tight end sets in the regular season I'd be using 3 WRs a lot in pre-season. They need the practice and we need to find out who stays and who doesn't.

A LOT of quick-sets.  I want the offense to get used to it. It allows the offense to control the tempo,   limits the defenses ability to substitute players,  forces the defense to declare early and makes it more difficult to disguise their coverages....and if the defense isn't used to it you can expect a few penalties and wasted time outs.  It has been used effectively against us by Denver and Cincinnati.  We haven't  used it  much since Mike White was dismissed.  Under Shell any play we got off without a delay of game was considered a quick set.  Things haven't gotten all that much better since.

I think you sound like a good Doctor.  My lone disagreement is on Shell:  a 'quick set' was when we set and then immediately false started.  The play getting off before the whistle would be more acurately described as a 'Miracle'.

Gas, I agree with your diagnosis of pre-season. The Raiders should pass as much as possible. I think this running game is about to take off so practicing the passing game should be the focus. Then once the season starts use the run to set up the pass. Use our proven commodities like Miller and Higgins on short routes to get the LBs out of the box and watch the 1st downs pile up. Then work the deep game in with Schillenz. Let DHB watch for a while and let Walker prove he wants to play f*$& his contract.

X, it's got to be tough to take the abuse of a Raider hopeful. I agree with you fu$$ the past! This is the most talented team in a few years. After having a veteran loaded team during the superbowl run we all new it was going to take a few years to re-build. Because Al doesnt believe in rebuilding it took longer. Nothing is guaranteed and record shouldnt be the main factor this year but team progress. I still think the Raiders are between 5-11 and 7-9 this year and possibly a factor next season. This backfield is stacked!!

way to go way out on a limb with that 5-11 record prediction!

a "few" years = 3. here's a little nugget for you = IT'S BEEN TWICE AS LONG AS THAT AND FEELS LIKE 10X LONGER!

how many freaks in here have their head in the sand too insane!? oh gee "team progress" after having a TOP 10 pick every year for going on a decade now

I think you're right about more 2 TE sets despite what Cable alluded to a few weeks ago. Theres no way they only keep 2 TE's. No way.

Tony Stewart may be a locker room leader, but his game is lame. Poor blocker, poor receiver and marginal at special teams.

Miller's a lock and I see Darrell Strong improving enough to make the cut.

We are a really young team now and few of the players here now were responsible for the past 6 years.  Players that have suffered through or contributed to the past 6 years, Nam, SeaBass, Lechler, etc. are hard to fault for the failures.  It's also hard to rip management for Bey and give them no credit for Murphy, all in the same sentence.

It's a new season, new players, new coaches, new schemes and it's all with a fresh start and a clean record, much the same as 31 other teams.  Celebrate and encourage our young team who gave us hope at the end of last season for the first time in 8 or 9 years, rather than boo them for what their predecessors did or didn't do.

And if they prove us wrong, keep celebrating, just do it with the money you save on tickets.

This coming January will be 7 years since the Raiders were in the SuperBowl. It's been longer than that since more than half the league has been to the SuperBowl. The Cardinals just made it for the first time. No team in our division has been there since the 90s. Who cares what your record is, if you don't win the superbowl nobody remembers you. It's not easy.

UCry2Much, Posers? You're one of the biggest posers on this site. Some of us use this site and each other to discuss our team and even rant. You use it to beat your chest and pat yourself on the back. X is a little boy? I've seen more childish comments come from you then I've seen from everyone else on this site combined. You're a Raider hater and when they do win you'll still be a hater. I watched the Raiders dominate the league for at least 4 years earlier this decade. It was the most success I've seen since the mid 80s. I don't expect them to win all of the time but now that they're on their way up and others on their way down the tables are about to turn.

How come you can beat down Al for running this team into the ground but you can't beat yourself down for running your life into the ground? You're a miserable person and you should go get some counseling and maybe see some good in life instead of always being a miserable piece.

X, I'll see you in Oakland pretty soon dawg. Whether this team is winning or losing right now we've built a brotherhood and we'll be sitting drinking our "cold ones" and smiling when they're winning. F$c* the haters!

We've got bigger things to worry about. Like how this is just the beginning of our economic problems. One thing is collapsing after another. Hey Cry2much, tell me how my [bleep] tastes!

Raiders, Lakers, Dodgers forever! Am I a lucky fan or what?

Another Reason for the big passing work is that it needs to be affective whenever its used and needed. like the steelers it doesnt have to be pretty just productive. if we convert on 79 percent on third down even 50 is way better than past numbers.

Yea I'll drink with ya. anytime!

Got to support the team and pray for the best.

Lakers Dodgers and Raiders

God bless bro

Hope any of our wides step up this year. last year was baaaad...

New tackles and new WR's will hopefully be an improvement especailly in the red zone where our undersized cut blocking O line has problems powering it in.

Go Raiders!
