The A's new young hotshot phenom, Vinny Mazzaro, who won his first two starts setting the club record for most consecutive scoreless innings since making his professional debut, will pitch against Tim Lincecum, the young Cy Young award winner from the Giants in what should be a great matchup to watch!

That could be a great game if both are on their games. But Mazzaro has a ways to go before breaking Ziegler's major league record of 39 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings since making his major league debut last season. Perhaps Mazzaro's club record is just for starters? It is a little too early to annoint him the next Catfish Hunter, just as you can't get too carried away with the A's current 7-game winning streak, but it sure has been fun this past week. Hopefully, they can keep it going.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Ziegler. You're right, Mazzaro's is the club record for starters, having supassed Harang. He's third on the club list for pitchers including non-starters.
If he beats Lincecum, will you at least admit it's time to get excited again?

Hey I'm excited, but just cautious enough not to get carried away yet. We're still not even .500 yet. It was a tough April and May, but June has been great thus far.

That's the most frustrating thing! Trying to find the local teams on TV. I liked the old day's when the Giants were on 2 and the A's were on 6. I don't know what channel the A/s are on my direct TV, I think it's 697 or something. I'm not used to those Comcast Sports Channels yet. No wonder only 10,000 people showed up at the game and people like 001 haven't accepted yet we are truly watching something special happen in Oakland. Outman won again last night and he whiffed their former MVP 3 times! Anderson has had his troubles, but if he wins tonight how can you deny the miracle comeback we are witnessing?

I'm just enjoying finally being able to listen to games, now that the A's are on radio 860. It is a much stronger station throughout the Bay Area than most of the fly by nights we have been stuck with recently. I'm heading out to the Coliseum tomorrow night, and hope they can keep the streak alive vs the Twinkies. I went to several of the games during their 20 game streak a few years back including #20 with Scott Hatteberg providing a memorable walk-off dinger.

You can't win with just excellent starting pitching and hot hitting. The bullpen can't give up runs in the late innings. I guess the A's were just teasing us for a while. The streak was just a blip, an anomaly, dumb luck, a temporarily spike, an outlier, or whatever it's called in baseball. I'm still going to watch Vinny vs Tim on Friday, but not with as much fervor, interest, gusto, enthusiam, stokedness, as before.

How 'bout detached indifference?

Last night's game was a tough one, as Braden pitched well, but the bullpen faultered with apparent detached indifference and allowed 4 runs in the final 2 innings for a blown save. Holliday took a nasty HBP right on the knee in his first at bat, and I can't believe he was able to even stay in the game. It looked painful. I hope he is OK. I think the 7-game win streak was just an E-Ticket ride which has ended. It was a great ride while it lasted. There is a long line to ride it again, but maybe we can conjure up a Fast Pass to speed up the process?

A nice comeback win today to make up for the blown save last night. Down 3-0 with 5 outs to go, The A's rallied behind Adam Kennedy's game tying 2-run dinger and Rajai Davis got the walk-off RBI single to win it in the 9th. I was at the game last night, and the scoreboard showed he had just 1 RBI all year which I found almost impossible as he had 15 hits and 3 of them were doubles. Well, he got a big RBI last night to give the A's the lead and a huge one today to push his season total to 3! Cahill pitched well for 7, and Ziegler shut the door in the 8th & 9th for the win. Now on to BJ's dream matchup across the Bay tomorrow night.

The A's outhit the Giants and lost! I thought Mazzaro was going to throw a perfect game there for a while. That Sandoval guy broke up the no hitter with a bunt! What the heck was that? Adam Kennedy looked like Bengie Molina running in sand when he tried to score on Jack Cust's monster shot off the wall and got thrown out at home. The Giants got all the breaks! Mazzaro has great stuff though. He's no Lincecum, but I think he'll be pretty good for the A's.

Do I detect some sour grapes here. Let's give credit where credit's due. Those relay throws that nailed Kennedy at home were textbook perfect and Molina positioned himself so that Kennedy never touched home plate. Mazzaro wasn't the same pitcher out of the stretch in a stress situation. That'll come with experience but right now I think it's pretty clear which young stud is the better pitcher (and hitter). You just don't see that many complete game shutouts anymore.

The shutout was lucky! You bought into the Kruk and Kuip Hype! The whole telecast was biased. Kennedy didn't have enought momentum to touch home plate or he had knocked the ball loose or broke Molina's arm! "Kennedy, who has above average speed," they said. I'm surprised the replay truck didn't show him running the bases in fast motion to back up the biased announcers. And that was really low of Krukow to scribble out that A's fan that was sitting right next to the Giant's fan. Those two guys were friends and were each wearing their team clothes and he white outs the guy with the A's jacket on? I hate the small market vs big market favortism. Where were the A's announcers? Stuck on some foreign language channel? Lincecum gets to bat a lot more than Mazzaro in the NL, so that's not fair to compare them as hitters. How much experience does Mazzaro have just pitching to a pither? BIASED!... BIASED!...BIASED!...BIASED!...BIASED!...BIASED!...BIASED!... BIASED!...BIASED!...BIASED!... BIASED!...BIASED!...BIASED!... Talk about the pot calling the kettle black!!! A's announcers have always been guilty of being the worst homers in the business. That's why I don't watch A's games. If they hired some decent announcers and gave the players something other than those white shoes ("There are no white shoes in baseball", to paraphrase Tom Hanks) then I'd consider watching some of their games.
At least Kruk & Kuip will call it like it is when the Giants get a break on a bad call by an ump.

I didn't get a chance to see much of the series, or the inside the park homer, but understand it was the local kid Schierholtz from San Ramon HS that did the trick. The A's sure made that recent 7 game series look like just a blip. I'm sure the Giants fans would like to see the A's get back on their feet this week against the Dodgers. Any damage that can be inflicted in the next couple of weeks before Manny comes back could be crucial down the stretch. Even though the Giants are 7 games out and the A's are just 8 games back, being so far under .500 makes 8 games look like Mt. Everest.

The A's only lost 1 game after that Giant's series because the Rangers lost 2 in a row! Being only eight games out of first and have a losing record, that just proves the A's know how to lose smarter! Neener, Neener... Neener!

Nice effort by Trevor Cahill tonight, after falling behind 1-0 early. Bobby Crosby came through in the clutch with 3 RBIs, hiking his average up to a robust .196. On to part 2 of the dream matchup.

Giambi homered off Lincecum! If the A's hadn't botched that relay throw in the first inning trying to throw out Torres who really does have better than Adam Kennedy-type above average speed, the game would be pretty much even! Mazzaro has settled down. They just need to get into the Giant's bullpen to win. Be patient young A's!

That A's vs Giants series was pretty awesome. The Lincecum embarrassed the A's hitters both times he faced him without breaking a sweat. I feel sorry for A's fans, they have an awful team and a terrible stadium to boot. And once a big name starts doing well they will be shipped off to the Yanks. The AAA's were only interesting when their entire team was juicing during the bash brother era. After that they have stunk up the joint pretty bad and this year is no exception. Meanwhile, the team the Bay Area actually cares about is in the thick of a wild card hunt with the best pitching staff in all of the MLB and a bunch of hot young hitters emerging as legit MLB players. What an awesome time to be a real baeball fan. A GIANTS fan.

Typical response by an A's fan who lives in the past.
Giants have won championships too genius. When they won them is irrelevant.

Those are just the 4 they have won since they moved out west in 1968. With 30 teams in baseball, one could expect to win a world series title once every 30 years. The fact the A's have won 4 in just 40 years is a bonus. As an A's fan, I feel lucky to have experienced 4 world series championships, and some very exciting teams and experiences in other years as well. Don't feel sorry for A's fans. This year has been a struggle with the loss of Duchscherer, Ellis, Chavez, Levine and now Outman. But I don't abandon them just because of a few injuries. They'll be back before you know it. Possibly as early as next season. One can hope. In Beane we trust.

Oh, I get it. Just because the game isn't a nail-biter it's not worth mentioning. Just because a guy who survived brain surgery and worked his butt off in the minors and when he finally gets called up doesn't allow a run in his first 13 innings in the majors.....not worth mentioning? And the Giant's bats, that were supposed to be non-existant explode for 13 runs in three innings.....? Against a pretty hot team.......?

I didn't say it wasn't worth mentioning. I was just pointing out that it was 13-0 as early as the 3rd inning as you said it had been 13-0 in the 4th inning. And yes it should have been televised today and the rook has shown some real chutzpah in his first two starts (as did Mazzaro in his first two starts).
How it that for tying it back into BJ's thread?

I had forgotten about that one. Bartkowski had a cannon for an arm. As amazing (& lucky) as the catch was, the moves "White Shoes" made to get into the end zone were even better. That guy had some incredible kick returns there for a few years too.
Why did Bill Walsh leave the field when they still had to kick the extra point? They were just about to talk about it when the clip ended: "As you saw, Bill Walsh, Fortyni.....".
