Friday night begins the race for the DVAL crown and all three games are must wins for all six teams...College Park had a close call at Freedom and so did Clayton Valley at North Salinas and Mt. Diablo and Ygancio Valley are licking their wounds...But North Gate gave River City the business big time......To reach the playoff's for College Park and this is a big maybe, they have to win them all....They had the toughest preseason schedule of them all and they may have to pay the price of no playoff's....

Concord Vs. College Park.....Concord 33..College Park 20...CP has that big line and a good back field, but the Minutemen have a very good QB and speed......This will be a good ball game..

Ygancio Valley Vs. North Gate.....YG 30..NG 19   All the adjustments that Turner has made have paid off, but  they face a determined Bronco team, but the Warriors have more fire power...

Clayton Valley Vs. Mt. Diablo.....CV  28...NG 14    The Eagles are 5-0 and are headed for 6-0, but first they must stop Morrow and the Red Devil offense to get there...

CP vs Concord - I have been saying all along that this Concord team could give CP fits. This game is going to come down to which team is more mentally prepared and makes the least amount of mistakes.  Speed against size & strength. Its CP's homecoming and they will be fired up for this one. Have to be a homer and go with CP over Concord 27-20.

YV vs Northgate - YV will handle Northgate with a combination of power & speed in the backfield & some passing with Turners new offense. YV over NG 34-14.

CV vs MD - CV will keep Morrow and the Red Devil offense in check. I hear Turner may be done, which if true will be a huge blow to MD's offense.  CV over MD  20-6.

Clayton Valley at Mt. D

McKillip CV will have a hard time rushing on a tough Mt. D defense Morrow MD is absolutely the best QB in the league the kid has a gun for an arm a good set of wheels and a great sense of the game Buhagiar CV will take it up a notch and CV takes the win

Concord at College Park *** Game of the Week******

Game starts at 3:30 10/16 Make the time to see this one it will be a butte

CP The Defense are men amongst boys (when you see their size you'll get it) Raciti could play at JC level today (the lose of Danska and Schrader hurts him though) C Lloyd will need to be protected and stay patient C Pica, Childs & Galindo smash and the speed of C Buford and Hightower kills C takes the win but, they will need to play all 4 quarters intense

Northgate at Ygnacio

Gotta LOVE what the new coach at YV has done YV Patrone is in great shape teams can know longer just focus on him (not that many could stop him) with Neshaim YV with league high passing pct and Jones and Porschet keeping defenses off balance this alas will be to much for the young NG D The offensive talent at NG is the best they have had in years Barney and Butler are not used to the best of their athletic abilities (coaches) rely to much on Stover rushing which will go no where in league YV takes the win

CP vs. C

I think this is when CP's tough pre-league schedule will pay off.  Although they will have their hands full w/Pica and Hightower, I'm giving it to CP...28 to 21.

YV vs. NG

Most will think this game is a far gone conlusion (and I agree).  Porschet will have lots of fun this game. I give it to YV...28 to 7

CV vs. MD

MD knows their in for a battle and would love nothing more than to knock off the undefeated defending champs.  I don't see it happening.  McKillip is too much back (top two in league) for the Devils.  The W goes to CV...28-14

It may very well be a "far gone" conclusion. YV should be heavily favored, but NG is much improved this year and capable of pulling off an upset or 2 in league play.

Tonight begins the sifting.  I agree that any team can beat/upset their opponant, especially in a game like football.  Best of luck to NG, I will be definitely pulling for them tonight.

How awsome would that be!  I would love to see NG pull this win out.  Any Given Friday, right?  I hope Barney & Co. Do it.

The Northgate freshman beat Ygnacio 24 -6.  YV's only TD came on a 60 yard fumble return.  Jimmy Sharpe for NG is really something.  He makes tackles on special teams, catches big gainers on fake punts for first downs, drags tacklers all over the field refusing to go down.  The NG freshman are getting better at running the offense too, but they got to watch the fumbles.

YV only had 20 kids on the team!  They were tired.  A parent remarked grade reports recently came out, but they also wondered about the steep pay-to-play fees.  Whatever the reason, I think YG will have more problems than NG in the coming years based on the freshman game.  Is MD getting enough kids participating on the freshman team?  Both MD and YV have good varsity teams now, but you hate to have money enter into the competition factor.

Getting back on subject, at least this should be a fun to watch, fairly competitive year for the DVAL varsity squads.

Heard a freshman fumbled the game away for Mt vs Cv and the refs gave Mt a td that was 2-3 yds out of bounds. Curious about the Turner kid and what he did at school that got him in trouble bc he didnt practice all week and the coaches still let him play.

Morrow the best quarterback in the DVAL???

do yourself a favor and dig up game film on Ricky Lloyd 5 more TD throws tonight with no ints

also buy a ticket to the war that will go down at Clayton Valley next week, I don't know if anyone can beat CV but Concord appears the be ready to step up.

Now should there be any argument about Lloyd vs Morrow I invite you to go to the nearest Barnes and Noble and pick up a copy of the CD ROM "My First Math Game" learn to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.

Stanford, You got to look at other point of views, Lloyd is in a passing system, of course he will have better stats when they throw the ball 30 times a game... Also Morrow doest have the line or receivers Lloyd has. I think that Morrow is a better runner then Lloyd, But their both taleted  QB's.

I dont think that clayton is as good as everyone thinks they are this year. Sure they are 6-0 but they have only faced mediocre teams, barley getting by in a few of them. Next week we will see what they are made of. Its their homecoming so they should come out with a little something extra, but it was also college parks homecoming and look what happened to them. Should be a good game

After seeing 2 of the 3 games this weekend, I see a league that has some good matchups and I think we will see outcomes depending on these matchups.

Concord brought too much of a passing attack for College Park and broke through in the 4th quarter to put the game away.

Clayton Valley was outplayed by an inspired Mt Diablo team but walked away with the win (albeit with a little help from the refs).

On paper it looks like Concord could roll through the DVAL, but I think CV matches up with them well and will pull out the win. CP appears to have the advantage in matchups against CV. Mt Diablo has a lot of talent and some big hitting defenders, but like always they need to keep the mental errors & turnovers to a minimum to pull out the big wins. I have not seen YV or Northgate as of yet but from what I'm hearing, YV has put together a scheme that can compete with anyone in the league.

I saw the game Friday night ( I travel alot and do not get to see to many games but I enjoy following the local league I think it is great ) I do not see how CV was helped by the refs. MD scored a TD that was out of bounds and on the first 3 possesions CV stopped MD 3 and out and then 2 INT'S so with 6 minutes left in the 1st quarter the score should have been 21-0 instead of 7-0. You can not let a team hang around like CV did. I believe if #3 did not get injured they would have beaten CV. But if CV scores those first 3 times the game would have been over. One thing I noticed about CV they are big upfront and can wear you down as the game goes on. As far as the QB comparison forget stats if you lined up the concord QB and the MD QB and put them through the same drills the MD QB has more talent. Bigger,Faster and stronger arm and I believe he is younger (not sure on that one) I heard the YV QB is also very good but I have not seen him yet. Good Luck to all this week .

Obviously your job requires no data evaluation or maybe you were one of the guys a few years ago talking about how much better Ryan Leaf was than Peyton Manning, I mean really who on earth says something like throw the stats out.  And why are you hating on CHS, last year you were on Concords sideline chatting up Hamilton and had all the inside dope?  But always nice to have you around...wheres TimL?

Not hating on Concord I think they will beat Cv next week I just think that in watching both guys play MD'S QB is a better player.. They run different offenses and have different players. It is also good to speak with you again

What true-it said is Morrow MD is absolutely the best QB in the league, that is not a point of view it’s a statement thus open to the stats to evaluate the claim.

Pigskin2 sounds like in argument you offer a bunch of excuses and suggest that passing is not a point to evaluate a QB ….come on now that’s garbage!

Lets see how they stack up?

5 Games

Lloyd-79 for138 / 9 interceptions 1,105 yards & 16 TD’s

Morrow32 for 69 / 4 interceptions 512 yards & 7 TD’s

Last Night 6th game

Lloyd -24 for-34 / 0 interceptions 357 yards.& 5 TD’s

Morrow -4 for 15 /3  interceptions 51 yards & 1 TD

Adam Nesheim from Ygnacio Valley has better numbers than Morrow

Lloyd now has 21 TD’s on the season. So, if Morrow had 13 TD’s rushing, which he doesn’t then maybe there would be an argument

Still another game of the week in the DVAL as Concord takes on Clayton Valley....The Eagles have a stubborn defense and although they had a rough time with Mt. Diablo and had to settle for a 14-10 win...It just may have set the tone for the Concord/Clayton Valley Game.....But The minutemen have a strong passing game along with speed.....On saturday, Ygnacio Valley meets Mt. Diablo at 1 P.M. which will be another good matchup.  Plus College Park takes on North Gate.  CP was mauled by Concord and now its time for CP to take out some revenge on the Bronco's...But maybe NG will catch the Falcon's by surprise...

Concord Vs. Clayton Valley......Concord  32....Clayton Valley 20 As good as the Eagle's appear to be, they will have a tough time stopping the Minutemen offense..

Mt. diablo Vs. Ygnacio Valley.....YG 28..MD 13....The Warriors shut out NG last week, but that won't happen this Sat. with the Red Devils....With a passing attack combined with the running of Wood and Co. Turner's troops will win a hard fought game....

College Park Vs. North Gate.....College Park 35...North Gate 7.....The Bronco's have a big job on their hands facing off agaiinst that CP line and stopping the Falcon offense....This game may be closer then the score predicts...

I hate to say it, because they have come so far and had such a promising pre-league, but I don't think Northgate wins another game this season.Frown I'm guessing they go 0-5 in league.  If they can't even score anything against YV, they aren't going to have a prayer against CV, CO, CP...and MT will probably run right by them.

I'm HOPING Concord can take it to CV this week, they need to be busted down a notch.  They are not the 2008 CV team.  I'd like Concord to win this, it will bring their program up even more and make for a healthier DVAL.  CV is going to work hard this week though, the MT scare might have given them the extra boost they need to beat Concord.

As I said, CP beats NG handily.  CP is going to playing angry, and NG won't be able to handle them.

YV beats MT, but it's going to be a scary one.  No longer with YV do you know the ball is coming up the middle EVERY PLAY.

At least Northgate has a fighting chance this season. A couple of years ago, few would have thought the program would have come this far. They may not win another game this year, but then again they may. I would not bet on them winning against any one of the other DVAL teams this year, but I would not be that surprised if they shocked one of them either. It is good to see the kids working hard. Who knows, maybe someday they'll have lights?

The NG Freshman lost to CP Freshman 13 - 6.  They are playing better, but still had some breakdowns defending the pass.  They are pretty good against the run.  It looked like it was going to be a shutout, but Jimmy Sharpe broke through a hole at their own 30 yard line, had one guy to beat, the safety, whose only chance was to slow him down long enough for other Falcons to come, because Jimmy drags guys along and it takes more than 1 to get him down.

The safety got his hands on him, but Jimmy just shed him away with a stiff arm and finished it off for a 70 yard scamper.  Even the guys that had the angles chansing him couldn't catch him.  He's really going to be one to watch, even if NG has other good players who are upperclassment.  He can play any position with his strength and speed.  He's going to wrestle, and I would be surprised if he plays a spring sport like baseball or track.  He's an athlete and makes it a treat to watch the games because you expect him to do something great.  Remember his name.  The only way to stop him is to cancel the sports programs!

I had a feeling this could be the end of CV's winning streak. They played a fairly weak preseason schedule which masked some of their problems, and the Minutemen played them tough a year ago. Concord now looks to be the favorite for the DVAL, but YV and MD will still get their cracks at them as well as NG..

Just in from Philly my Dodgers were denied AGAIN

Just a short 5 years ago NG beat up on C and Mt D my have times changed.

Gotta love C ( Pink socks and heart felt showing at 5k run) good group of kids and an excellent coaching staff and boosters, !!!! Concord will take DVAL last week they showed speed beats size.

Mt. D should take YV although YV has a new offense, if they could not run it on NG it's back to PATRONE (looking good has lost at 20 L B's)

CP will smash NG size will matter in this game!  Stover punk'd out against YV as I said before this goes know where in league.  To bad NG does not use ALL their talent, if all they are going to depend on is Stover they will never win game in league play.

Sorry, to CV your time on top is OVER!

Just have to say: It's only one loss for CV and they had a 16 game winning streak so the way I see it this is a BIG accomplishment.  Stop focusing on the negative.  That's my one and ONLY comment.

It is not so much a negative for CV as a positive for the Minutemen. It is ONLY a negative if you see it that way. The glass is half empty, etc. CV had a great team last season and that was a BIG accomplishment, but this year it is Concord's turn. The comment about the preseason schedule being weak was just the truth. This was really the first game CV could really be measured. Perhaps Herc can get the boys back on track and win another 16 in a row after this one, but you really have to give Concord some props for this effort.

10-25-09 Ygnacio Valley took care of Mt. Diablo 27-7 in which it was thought, that this game would be a lot closer....and what about North Gate...they lost to College Park 35-20, but they scored 20 against them....It would appear that Clayton Valley could be in for another loss based on the CV/MD score vs. YG/MD score, in any case the Eagles have a lot of work to do toprepare for YG....

Holy cow, did Concord come ready for that game. Clayton was not prepared for such an air attack. Clayton will have to change up some stuff. Not to take anything away from Concord but they just did what the last two teams did to prepare for Clayton, Concord just did it perfectly, and that was to contain the running game. I think most teams have realized that Clayton has no passing game. They stop the running game of Buhagiar & McKillip, they win. The last three teams to play CV stacked the box with 8 & 9 guys, having no regard for a passing attack from CV (I would do the same thing). If their going to have any chance to win convincingly, they will have to get their QB on track or get him out. Maybe run the "wildcat" with three backs (Buhagiar, McKillip, Nakimura). Tough to win turning the ball over 4 & 5 times. Concord will probably win league as they have many offensive weapons. Lloyd is very lucky to have the recieving corp he does. You can't miss with the likes of Childs & Galindo, throw the ball up and just let them do what they do (very neat to watch them make plays). Props to Hamilton, onside kick after onside kick, talking about keeping a team off balance. Congratulations to Concord for a great win. I think it will only be a good thing for the Eagles.

As impressive as the win was against Clayton Valley, more impressive is the relationship these boys have made with the residents of Stonebrook.  My hat is off to Coach Hamilton and staff for keeping these boys grounded and showing them what is most important in life.  The time spent with the residents was initaly done to help the patients, but the reward for our young men far outweighted that.  As a parent of one of the players, i want to thank Stonebrook for giving these young men the opportunity of friendship and genuine connection with other human beings.  The compassion i have seen from them is immeasurable.  Sports are an important part of young people's lives, so to incorporate that with life lessons that will carry on with them forever, it's the best of both!  Too many times we hear of stories of this new generation and their lack of community, it is refreshing to see something so positive about these young men and their willingness to put themselves out there for the better of thier community.  Nest week if your at the homecomming game, take a minute to say hello the the residents of Stonebrook in the stands, you cant miss them they will be cheering the loudest and waving their rally rags they made in art class at Stonebrook.

somebody needs to let bazooka joe know that the only people that care about freshman football are the players themselves and their parents.

just because some kid does well his freshman year against a bunch of kids that dont know how to tackle doesnt mean hes varsity mvp the next year.

Bazooka Chuck, I don't mind hearing about frosh or JV football. All we get in the papers and websites are the varsity sports. I wish there was a little more coverage of it. Not a lot, but a little is OK. If Bazooka Joe wants to discuss Jimmy Sharpe and NG frosh football, have at it. I'd rather read about frosh football than neighbors wanting to ban lights and Friday night football games.

Would you believe 14 -13?  The Raiders beat the Eagles.  There's also a letdown after a big win factor and an underdog knocking off the top dog factor that can sneak up and bite you in the you-know-what.

oh yeah, I've heard about these threats....NG is going to sue to have every game that had any players on the field that had not paid their transportation fees paid forfeited.  Just what the DVAL needs right now.

I guess that's the only way they'll win a league game.  If NG is going to make a case out of this, please do so prior to the games, save us all the time and hassle of actually playing them.  So what if all the kids want to do is play football, what matters most is that the parents have some vindication.

No, the district should have not allowed ANY sports play rather than going from season to season. This has nothing to do with any one team or the other, if one sport is allowed to play, all sports MUST be allowed to play, period. The district last night O.K.ed winter sports only and took a wait and see for spring sports and also knowing that some programs have not collected fees for fall sports. I have been told that some of the seniors were told not to worry about the fees because they won't be playing any other sports.

Again, the district screwed this up by allowing fall sports to be played and telling the winter and spring sports that if money wasn't raised, their seasons won't be playing and now they just did it again with winter and spring sports. Yet, ALL sports went out fundraising.

As to Northgate, that is not the school that I am asscioated with, as a matter of fact, the school that I have been involved with is the worst offender.

Two good ball games this Friday as College Park meets Mt. Diablo and Ygnacio Valley takes on Clayton Valley....this is a must win for all four....In the mean time Concord  hosts North Gate.

Ygnacio Valley Vs. Clayton Valley.....YG  27  CV 21......The Warrior's balanced attack willbe too much for the Eagles...but this game could be close....

North Gate Vs. Concord.....Concord 56   NG 7......Stopping the Minutemen will be too much for the Bronco's

College Park Vs. Mt. Diablo.....CP 28   MD 19......there could be a surpise in the making as the Red Devil passing game may turn this game around....both teams have big lines, so the pass just may make the difference....

Not a partisan of either CV or YV but am a big fan & supporter of the success of prep sports. This week KTVU's high school game of the week poll includes the Warriors and Eagles' matchup. The great thing about this internet poll is that it raises $500 for each of the two team winners of the poll. This is an easy fund raiser to help our schools in these tough times.

All that is required is to go to KTVU.com, punch up "High School Sports Focus" for the game of the week poll and vote as many times as you have time for. Presently the YV-CV game has a slim lead over the Mitty-St Francis game. I met Fred Inglis  from KTVU at the DLS-MV game....great guy who has a genuine interest in prep football....even though he only gets to feature the game of the week on the Friday night broadcast for about 10-15 seconds.

There's also the popping off factor that kind of negates the underdog and looking past your opponent factor.  Like if Concord posts my predictions about a NG upset on the locker room door.

Actually, TooOld, I heard some grumblings about player tampering and eligibility infractions regarding Concord, but it was from Clayton Valley fans following that defeat last week, so I just wrote it off as sour grapes.  I don't worry about that stuff.  They are obviously a very talented team.  That stuff goes around all the time and the best teams are always going to be accused of it.  Northgate fans are too busy trying to coordinate who's going to bring the folding tables and pop-up shade awnings and all the goodies to sell at the makeshift concession stand to worry about that stuff.  (Frosh, home game).

Great job DVAL fans. The votes are in for the KTVU High School of the Week poll and the YV-CV game won out in a tight race with the Mitty-St Francis game; a last minute surge of voters put them over the top. This means $1000 will be split between the Warriors and Eagles to help with their sports programs. Great job of fund raising for the kids.

Interesting.... I sat with a bunch of Concord parents a few weeks ago that told me they couldn't wait for Hamilton to quit.  They thought he was a poor example of sportsmanship to their boys and was generally a thug on campus.  I don't know him either way, but from what I have seen of him on the sidelines throwing his hat at the ground and verbally abusing players, I would tend to agree with the parents.  Looks like a bit of 'roid rage to me....     I'd have to admit that the Concord kids seem to be very nice, I wonder how much input Hamilton had in the adopting of the old folks next door, I think I read that a player's parent works there and it was her idea.  It seems like he has a chip on his shoulder for every other team too.  Burning a video of NG beating you at homecoming 2 years ago?  really?  Running up the score with all starters on the field against CV because they hung around on your field for too long last year?  I seems like the guy never forgets, sort of a victim mentality.

Good point regarding fewer kids, I suppose that could be true.   There must be a 2nd team QB though, right?  Give that kid some time in case something happens to Lloyd, and heaven forbid something happens to Lloyd that affects his playing career into the future when Concord is up by 30 points and some kid on the other team wants to make a point in a rout....  just seems like an emotional decision rather than a pragmatic one to leave some of these guys in.

Last night at the YV/CV game Buhagir took Patrone out of bounds and then pushed him over the bench and onto the track.  The game was all but over, YV was running the ball rather than throwing, and yet Buhagir (I think it was him, #40) lost his head and could have caused a bad injury to Patrone for no other reason than being a poor sport.  Bad things can happen.

I think that if it truly is Hamilton's last year he really doesn't care who he disrespects because he's not going to be around to get the payback.  That's a crappy lesson to teach too.

Wow,

Guess your a ygnacio valley fan!  This is football!  Your comment about starters is a joke!  These guys have played this way all year.  What about some props for alot of them playing both ways, instead you bash the coach and the great things this team has done all year!  Maybe instead of you talking trash, you should have come to the rally on Friday when one of the residents Norm, who Hamilton has built a friendship with, was rolled over from Stonebrook by the coach to attend the rally! The entire Gym was chanting Norm! Norm!  and he told me the next night that it  was one of the best days of his life. ( I know because i sat with him the entire game!)

In reguards to your final statement, have you ever attended a practice at Concord?  Is your child playing for him!  My guess is it's just sour grapes from you as a hater!  As far a Patrone getting ruffed up, Again this is football!  These are 16-17 year old kids who love to play.  This young man(Buhagir) is a athlete an probably did this in the heat of the moment!  Stop whining about Patrone, I know he is not complaining about the issue.  Instead focus on what you can start posting after the game next Saturday, We Minutemen can's wait to hear your commments!

Mrs. Pica, just chill a little bit.  Give the xanax a minute to start working...

Why is my comment about starters such a joke?  Given the choice, I'm would assume that a head coach would rather not have his best players exposed to unnecessary injury, especially with NCS just around the corner.  Someone pointed out that maybe there wasn't enough depth on the team to do that....he made a good point, I told him so and we moved on.  ANY coach I hope would feel terrible if a blue-chip player like Lloyd was injured when that team leads by 21 points or more in the 4th quarter.  I know that if I was Lloyd's parents and saw my son in a game risking career ending injury for no good reason I would have some questions. Lloyd has a shot at a nice ride from a D1 school, why risk him in an inconsequential HS game?  Again, maybe there is no backup that could use the time or experience, or maybe the Coach doesn't know how to turn off his own ego and wants to crush every opponent, leave his mark and retire.

That's great to hear about Norm and Hamilton.  Maybe my assumptions were incorrect about his role in the old folks friendship.  That's good news.

It's obvious Mrs. Pica that if someone has a different opinion than you than they automatically become a "hater".  I'm stating my observations, not in a shrill manner, not in a "hater" manner, but calmly and as I see it.  Did I sit by those Concord parents?  Did they say the things I said they did?  You bet, and I think you know there are those people that feel that way at Concord.  If you didn't know that, then I can tell you that there are at least 4 sets of parents that DO feel that way.  I am allowed to post my impressions and things the way I see them, as are you.

Additionally, if you actually read my posts, I give credit to excellent athletes no matter what team they're on.  My example in regard to Patrone was to show that bad things can happen to an athlete when it is least expected.  If someone had done the same thing (late hit out of bounds) to Lloyd late in a game with no hope of winning, I dare say you would be a very vocal "hater" of that situation.  Are you condoning the behavior of a player that loses his judgment in the heat of the moment?  I wonder if it was your son that was injured out of bounds late, do you think you'd just chalk it up to heat of the  moment play from 16-17 year olds.  I think not.

Please read the thread again and look for any posts of mine that address who will win the game this Saturday.  You will not find one.  I have a healthy respect for the talent of the Concord team, and the YV team.  I hope YV does well, and I hope Concord does well, I'm a HS football fan.   The fun part is the game, not necessarily the outcome.  This is what HS sports is supposed to be about, the 2 best teams getting a shot at each other.   I'm glad you look forward to my posts after the game, it will certainly  be a fun game to watch and I would imagine there will be something to post about it afterwards.

Have a nice week.

Everyone knew the Concord- NG game would be a blow out...  a little surprised to see NG keep it semi close for a half, but after halftime Concord's dominance showed.

I expected YV to beat CV, a little surprised at how they did it.  14-14 after 3... and for the CV offense to give it away with 4 interceptions to me is just stupidity by the offensive coordinator.  If they keep feeding Buhagiar and McKillip the game is much closer

And finally the "upset" of the night. MD squeaking one out against CP.  The defense did a great job with a couple of goal line stands and the offense did just enough to get the win.  A great defensive stand sealed the game for the devils.

With NCS changing to a potential 16 team bracket in D-2... we could easily see 4 DVAL teams in the playoffs.

Concord and YV obviously... CV will still finish with at least 7 wins. and if MD can beat NG next week they will go at worst 6-4.

In a 16 team bracket i think 6-4 gets them in, especially with a win over San Lorenzo who is currently 5-3 and will go no worse than 6-4.

the DVAL championship happens next week as Concord takes on YV. Concord is the favorite, but playing on a saturday will affect Concord.  Kids get so used to friday night lights that it is often difficult to adjust to the heat on saturday afternoons as well as the time.  If any players are up late on friday night, they wont be at 100% when they play saturday at 1.

Patrone ran wild in a loss last year, almost 400 yards, but he isnt the featured guy this year.  Patrone and porchet have their hands full with the Concord D.  They might have some success in the passing game.  In the end Concord has too many weapons and a stingy defense

Prediction: Concord 35, YV 21

other match ups

MD @ NG on saturday- must win game for MD, they win and they are potentially in playoffs, lose and they have no chance.  MD's D dominates the game, and Turner breaks a couple long runs.

Prediction: MD 28, NG 7

CV @ CP- 2 teams coming off of losses.  2 teams that want to pound the ball at you, it will be a very close game.  IF the CP DL can handle themselves against CVs OL then CP has a definite chance.  Ill give CV a slight edge

Prediction: CV 24, CP 21

If you were at the game and had your eyes open while you were watching it (that's if you were even watching the game) then how YV won the game would be no surprise to you would it? Especially if you were expecting them to win as you say... CV didn't GIVE the game away, the YV defense (like any other team with a good defense) TOOK the game away from CV by stopping the offenses ability to run the ball and force the OC to call more passing plays which of course gave YV the chance to take five of those passes away from the WRs including one to the house for a TD to ice a game that was already under their control by the time they scored that last TD.

It's a shame that bias towards a particular team or player keeps most of you so called football prognasticators from seeing things objectively and then basing your comments on some actually knowledge of football. To call CV's OC stupid because their QB threw 5 interceptions goes to show how stupid you are for making the comment when the OC is not out there playing the game.

The team LOST their starting QB from a year ago and so there was a weakness at that position that YV was able to take advantage of by TAKING away their strength, which is running the ball. That's what good teams, players and coaches do moron!!! Take away what your opponent is good at doing and force them to do something they're not as good at doing. CV is lucky it took so long for YV to get that aspect of their game under control.

If you knew anything about anything then there would be no need for me to point out the obvious.

I agree with 2Legit2quit's take on the YV & CV game.  Even though it was a 14 to 14 half score.  I believe Clayton was handling the Warriors and could have easily taken the wind out of YV's sails had they kept to what works for them.  Buhagiar & McKillip looked great along with Nakamura, I think CV could have easily let the backs tie the game with 7:30 left.  Even if CV lets them score again, they lose by only one score.  I think the offensive coordinator lost that game.  While YV played hard, they didn't win the game...it was given to them.  A little note on Buhagier's extra push to Wood.  Probably a little frustrated knowing they win the game if He and McKillip keep the ball, but the OC lets the QB's throw it into YV's arms.

Biggest game of the week

Concord Vs Ygnacio Valley..

they are both undefeated in DVAL.. its gonna be a battle between concord and yv... it will come down to "whos want the most"

Concord 35 vs YV 21

Clayton Valley vs College Park

CV 21 vs CP 14

Mt. Diablo vs  North gate

Honestly, NG needs to get a new offense.. seems like their Offense doesn't work.. double wing is getting old in DVAL..

Mt. D 24 vs NG 7

You may have a point about the double wing at NG.  When YV ran it they did it very well, taking them to multiple NCS berths and a championship.  Many of these teams are familiar with it, a poorly run double wing is pretty easy to stop.

yea i get what your saying Cal.. but it seems like double wing for NG doesnt work.. and i been to one of their game against ygnacio valley...it looked like they ran same plays over and over again which made the defense read the offense really easy ... I just think that in order for NG to be successful in the future (they got a great squad comin up next year) they should get new offense ...

Watching Turner at YV, I've been impressed at how he was able to take a team that everybody thought was too stupid to run anything but the wing and teach them a pretty difficult offense.  It tells me that FIRST the coaches have to understand the offense inside and out, and then have the ability to transfer that knowledge to HS aged kids in a manner they can understand quickly and easily.

I think often HS coaches try to dumb down their schemes to the lowest common denominator as opposed to challenging the kids and bringing them all along together.  Makes me wonder if in some cases it's the COACHES that don't understand much and hide behind "our kids won't understand that" to mask their own lack of knowledge.  I'm not thinking of any coaches in particular, I'm just saying I'd bet that is the case at some schools.

If you thought NG ran the same plays over and over, you must not have seen too many YV games in past years!  Literally they ran the same 2 offensive plays 70% of the game.  Boring as hell.  The only reason they had as much success as they did was that the O-line was conditioned to play hard all 4 quarters and never let the opposing team have the ball.  I remember a number of times YV holding possession for a quarter and a half on one drive down the field.  YV would usually score easily in the 4Q because the defensive line of the other team was exhausted, but if YV was behind in the 4Q, forget about it, they lost.  No time to make up any points when it takes your offense 5 minutes to score.

Most coaches do themselves and the kids they coach a disservice by assuming they are not smart enough to learn any scheme remotely complicated when in most cases it's because they don't fully understand what they themselves trying to teach. Instead of taking the challenge and finding creative ways to teach a drill or an offense or defense, most coaches take the easy way out and say I'm going to keep things simple and then blame the kids for failing all because they didn't teach them how to solve problems that occur with no back up plan. I've heard too many coaches say this is what we run, you either stop us or you don't. Good coaches learn how to teach their kids what they need to learn and then trust them to learn it.

The Concord Frosh offensive line has huge splits!  Does the varsity line up that way too?  It was totally unfair against NG!  The NG freshman offensive line could be more talented because they line up all bunched up and have to actually open holes for their RB's to run through.  The Concord O-line starts out with holes you could drive a Mack Truck through!  That's quite an advantage!

The OC saw that the Eagles had their back to the wall and went to the air and the plan backfired, but if those passes would have worked, things might have changed....The Eagle running game was working to a point and some times the decisions that are made just don't work....both teams came to play, but sometimes lady luck changes things...

We the fans are in the easy position to second guess the coaching decisions made. Just thought it a bit early to go to the air, when the passing attack is not very strong. The YV / Concord game should be fun. I think Concord has a slight edge on both offence & defence. The multi-facited Hightower helps Concord to a 42 to 21 win.

While CV struggles to perfect the balanced attack, I say they are more 4th quarter conditioned than CP & finally get back on track. CV 32, CP 14.

MD's D forces everything to the middle and stops NG. MD over the Broncos by two TD's. MD 28, NG 14.

I think some of the rematches @ playoff time will be awsome high school football. I'll be at the 'War of the Week' that is YV vs. Concord. I do agree with the comment made about Fri. night games vs. Sat afternoon games (could make the difference).

You can't say that YV's win was luck.  If there was a bad decision made by the OC, then there was a bad decision made by the OC, that's not YV's luck, that's CV's bad decision.  Coaching is just as much a part of the game as hitting, tackling and catching.  The balls put in the air by CV didn't LUCKILY fall into the hands of the YV DB'S FIVE TIMES.  It was poor play calling and poorer execution.

Don't minimize YV's win by saying luck had a part in it.

If this, if that... blah, blah, blah. If if were a fifth, you'd be drunk Bluedog2. But maybe you were if you think a team lost a game because they threw 5 interceptions in that game and the players on the other team had nothing to do with getting the ball. I guess luck just happened to go YV's way 5 times that night as opposed to their players just being good and smart enough to know that the QB is dropping back to pass and step in front of the guy they're covering as the QB is looking to throw the ball to his man and catch it before the other guy does as the ball is actually coming their way.

WOW... With such luck, maybe YV's secondary needs to give me the winning lottery numbers. I could certainly use that kind of luck myself.

YV, for what it's worth... YOU DID AN OUTSTANDING JOB IN BEATING A GOOD TEAM IN A HARD FOUGHT WIN by playing your butt's off and taking advantage of opportunities that came your way.

So let me get this straight... Anytime CV looses a game it's because the other team was lucky instead of better than them? I guess College Park is lucky too if they win. Maybe the OC for CV should fly to the Big Easy and have a voodoo Dr. put a spell on their remaining opponents so they can get back to winning. This way you can't cry that the other team was simply lucky anymore.

I was at the game this week and it was a hard hitting game. CV had 2 picks in the 1st half but only capatilized on 1. They ran the ball pretty well. The YV coach does a great job with the play calling. He really mixes it up well and tries to set things up as he is calling his plays. CV has a good coaching staff but the OC called a terrible game especially in the second half. YV was up by 8 and CV had the ball with around 7 minutes left and they just started throwing the football and YV'S defense did a great job covering the recievers and picked the ball off I think 4 times and capatilized on everyone of the turnovers. The YV coach did a great job calling plays and keeping CV's defense off balance. I think CV should have run the ball more instead of passing as their QB can not pass at all. YV pressed their recievers and put everyone else in the box. CV does not have a big time reciever either as the recievers are just average. Yv "s defensive coaches knew exactly what they were doing and they also did a great job. They really run to the football. Cv has a very plain offense and they are easy to figure out. If YY controls the football next week and keeps Concord's "O" off the field they will have a good chance at winning the game. It should be a great game next week. CV will have a tough time against CP next week if they run that same offense.

So, Weather.com forecasts periods of rain this Saturday...how will that affect the YV vs. Concord game?   Typically, passing teams have a harder time with a wet ball and a slower field than running teams.

Weather might have a big impact this weekend......

If YV isn't running the double wing anymore, I don't think the weather should matter much.  It's going to have the same effect on both teams anyway, however, if the ball is slippery, turnovers could determine the outcome, just like in any game.

I'm going to make Concord a 9.5 point favorite over YG based on Concord beating NG 46-0 and YG beating Northgate 36-0.  Okay, so it's not scientific, but it's not a bad prediction either.

haha Bazooka, yeah, I'd say that's not too scientific  ;)

I think YV could've beaten NG by 10 more points, but Turner doesn't have a hard-on for smearing teams like Hamilton seems to.

Also, the dust up at Brean High School volleyball game were any of the C football players disciplined? Are they eligible for play saturday or is this all much ado about nothing?

The game for the title will be at hand on sat. at Ygancio Valley High as the Concord Minutemen face the warriors....this game won't be the blowout that Concord has been dishing out...But with Lloyd  at QB  and with targets like Corey Galindo and Angelo Childs plus the speed of Hightower and the hard running of Alex Pica, YG will have its hands full...BUT...the Warriors have a solid defense that I don't think the Minutemen have faced yet....If the Warriors can cover the Concord recievers like they did against CV and put pressure on Lloyd, this may be a different game....YG has a passing attack also and is backed up by a running team of Wood and Porchet....This is a Sat. Afternoon game to watch.  And what is going on with College Park???  They started off like a house of fire and have been sputtering every since...The CV/CP game will be another local war and the question will be....who will winthe slug fest....

Concord Vs. Ygancio Valley.....YG 28...Concord 21.....The Warrior defense will make the difference in holding down the Minutemen

Clayton  Valley Vs. College Park.....CV 28...CP 14....The Eagle defense keeps the Falcons at bay...

Mt. Diablo Vs North Gate........MD 36..NG 13......Those Red Devils keep on rolling after the win over CP...

Wow, do you really think the Warriors can hold the vaunted Concord aerial attack at bay and limit them to just 21 points? This is clearly the game of the week in the DVAL, and should be for the league title. Both teams are solid, but I'm going to predict a Minutemen victory 35-30. This really could go either way. I agree with your other 2 picks though.

If CV loses to CP, they will have fallen a long way fast. CP is not as strong as they were last year either though. CV's weak preseason schedule didn't prepare them for the rigors of the DVAL regular season.  Gotta go with CV, but CP could surprise them like they did Alhambra. NG is just not quite there yet, but much improved over previous years.

Refreshing to see an opinion about the YV/CO game that is thought out and comes up with a YV win!

I'm cautiously optimistic about YV winning this game too.  I can't in good conscience come in here and say YV will dominate and CO is a bunch of wimps, that's for the HS kids to post...Laughing Concord has a good team and some quality athletes, and the same thing can be said for YV, so let's play the game and see what's up.

I'm not smart enough to make a score prediction, but I too am leaning towards a YV win.  Here's how I get there and where I think the advantages are:

D-line=TIE (both teams are almost identical statistically)

O-line=YV (YV can run AND pass block effectively, they have more experience with the run than CO)

Rushing=YV (dominant, no top 5 rushers for CO)

QB mobility=YV (Nesheim has wheels)

Passing=CO(but not by much, statistically)

Receiving=CO  (4 out of 6, but YV has #3 and #6)

Defense=TIE (CO is #1 this week after playing NG, YV has been #1 for many weeks)

Game time/day=YV (Saturday afternoon is going to mess with CO)

Field=YV (homefield will be rockin' for YV)

Coaching=YV (how can you not give Turner coach of the year for DVAL? completely changing the offense and having this degree of success in year #1)

It will certainly be one of the best matchups we've had on paper all year.

CAL, very nice breakdwon of the game, but you are missing some key components.

1) If YV can pull out a win it will be with time of possesion & the play of their db's & lb's. Concords spread offense creates matchups of wr's against lb's that aren't used to covering routes man to man. The YV db's have not had the opportunity to practice or play against such a well groomed offense with fantastic weapons like Concord has. They need to control the ball and keep Concords offense off the field.

2) The matchup of the day will be Wood/Porschet against Pica. Alec plays the linebacker position exactly how it should be played (even though his mom says he doesn't like defense). He is one of the top olb's in the league, if not the best. You can't run at him because he will either stuff the hole or make the tackle. If you try to run away from him, he has unmatched lateral speed & pursuit in this league.

The afternoon game shouldn't be a factor (the weather could be though), Concord played a Friday afternoon game against CP and was clicking all afternoon.

As far as keeping Concord to a score in the 20's, it can be done. CP should have held Concord to 3 td's. They gave up a td on 4th & 20, a td on a long pass that should have been picked but instead the safety tipped it up in the air into Galindos hands for a td, and Concord scored with a minute left in the game just to rub salt in the wounds. I believe YV will bring a superior defensive scheme on Saturday and will slow Concord down. Whether or not they can shut them down and win the game is doubtful in my opinion, but thats why the game has to be played.

The one thing ALL you posters keep leaving out is who these two teams have played prior to this match up.

Concord's stats are padded from playing teams like De Anza (0-8, scored only 24 points in 8 games and have given up 397 points and counting, 54 of them to Concord) a team with NO defense or offense. It was basically a scrimmage game for Concord. They are one of lowest rated teams in the Bay Area. Played them last year as well. De Anza was 1-9 in 2008. No improvement.

Next they beat a 2-8 team in 2008 in Jefferson and they have only improved to 4-4 so far.

They beat a 2-6 Skyline who was 1-9 the previous year. Again, a team with very little improvement. Concord's only win of any significance was Clayton Valley so this crap about Concord's defense being even with YV is based on stats alone. But stats mean nothing when you break down how those stats were compiled and who they were compiled against.

YV's schedule was a little bit tougher than Concord's and having played better teams than Concord gives them the edge on both sides of the ball and thus why they will win if they don't let the magnitude of this game get to them.

A one dimensional offense against a solid defense and a balanced offense against a defense that has not really been tested except one time all year. Concord played a team with a balanced offense in San Ramon Valley and lost.

With your philosophy, College Park is hands down the favorite to win each game they play in league. They have played a stronger strength of schedule than the rest of the league combined. Do you see a flaw in your philosophy yet?

CP Alum,

Do you see the stupidity in your comment? First off CP was no where in the subject of dialogue. The comparison was between two teams who happen to be playing each other for the DVAL Title and the argument was about who was going to win based on certain aspect germane to each team playing, not every team in the DVAL. Don't try to throw your team in the mix on what I said when your team can't win even league games.

How can a team be favored to win each league game when they can't even win the non-league games, no matter how tough the opponent is? Doesn't look you you make a valid point since they can't win the league games either. If they should win based on how tough their non-league schedule is and can't win because these teams are tougher than everyone else's non-league schedule in the same league, then winning the league should be a cake walk then right?

There is no flaw in pointing out FACTS. There's a difference between FACTS and a what you call a philosophy. And the FACTS as it pertains to your school is they are 3 and 5 overall and 1-2 in the DVAL.

And to further prove my point, YV beat Hayward in non-league. Hayward is a playoff team. They beat Clayton Valley, another playoff team. Beat Mt. Diablo, another team that might make the playoffs that CP lost to in fact.

CP lost to 4-4 Antioch and a 6-2 playoff bound Washington, a 5-3 Serra and an over rated Concord team.

Why should they be favored to beat any league team when they can't even win the tough games or the games they're supposed to win (Mt. Diablo)?

YV has beaten every team they should beat and won against some tough teams also. Their only lost was to another TOUGH team (Oakland Tech) and it wasn't by much.

I think I've proved my point. Maybe CP should stop scheduling against tough non-league opponents, ya think?

What point are you trying to prove?  You have turned this into a bash CP discussion now? I made a statement that your philosophy of schedule strength is flawed. If your point was valid, then CP would run the table. It takes a lot more than SOS to be a championship team. Yes Concord has played a comical non league schedule, but so has YV. Concord has done what they are supposed to do against those teams that didn't stand a chance against them, they put 60+ pts on the board against them. Thats Concords mojo, put a ton of points on the board and win the game, they have done just that. YV's mojo is to bring a balanced attack and a solid defense to pull out a win and they have done just that.

"

I think I've proved my point. Maybe CP should stop scheduling against tough non-league opponents, ya think?"  you are probably the same moron that last year was saying if CP would have scheduled a tougher schedule they would be in the playoffs right?

The Concord/YV game appears to be a good matchup and will probably be an exciting game to watch, but your input on the outcome is a joke! Neither team has prepared for this game by who they scheduled in their preseason. The previous 16 games ( 8 games for each team for the mentally football challenged) mean nothing when they step on the field Saturday afternoon.  As far as the CP team this year, its been a disappointment in the outcome of most their games, but you keep jawing along and I'll sit back and wait for next week. CP won't quit on each other and many of these kids remember that YV game last year where we laid an egg and that kept us out of the playoffs. Sure would be a shame for horrible team like CP, who cant win any tough games or even the games they are supposed to win to pull out a win against the MIGHTY WARRIORS and send them spiraling down the seeding in a lower division playoff bracket.

First off you turned it into a bash CP discussion by bringing them up when no one was even talking about them in the first place.

"With your philosophy, College Park is hands down the favorite to win each game they play in league. They have played a stronger strength of schedule than the rest of the league combined. Do you see a flaw in your philosophy yet?"

The conversation was about the Concord -YV game and the comparison was between two schools with identical records and figuring out the differences between the two of them with one glaring difference being who they played. And you bring CP in the mix as if anyone cares about them but you. So I bashed your team because you called my philosophy flawed when it had nothing to do with you or CP.

If you don't like it you should have never brought a team going nowhere in the mix. And your own comments about Concord beating teams that didn't stand a chance only helps prove my point about the weakness of their schedule since one of the teams that did stand a chance beat them (San Ramon Valley)  so thanks very much for pointing it out. But pouring it on against weak teams doesn't make Concord into the juggernaut everyone is making them out to be.

And sorry I'm not the same guy who said anything about CP scheduling tougher teams last year simply because I could care less about CP and I wasn't even on the se boards until recently this week. They've done nothing for them to even be a thought in my mind.

Your input on anything is a joke and it started by you bringing up your alma mater in a conversation that had nothing to do with them. Can't wait for next week either to sit back and watch your boys choke down another disappointing loss.

I apologize if you don't have the mental capacity to understand the difference between an example to your philosophy and throwing another team in the mix that nobody cares about.

" I wasn't even on the se boards until recently this week."

You weren't on the boards or you weren't on the boards using this screen name? Either way, these boards were more informative & interesting before your arrival.

"Can't wait for next week either to sit back and watch your boys choke down another disappointing loss."

I have a feeling you might be the one in for a disappointment, but regardless, the Falcons will have nothing to lose. they are the underdogs & supposed to lose that game. The Warriors will have a looming 3rd loss to avoid.

Peace out Mr football know-it-all

Footballsmart, you also have to realize that teams evolve over an 11 week season.  Some get banged up and lose power, but most start to gel and figure out how to play quality football by running their offense or understanding defensive assignments.  Looking back to previous games does not provide a definitive future, doing so is merely another clue along with statistics for us to use to GUESS outcomes.

You seem to be the only one that is absolutely positive of an unkown, and the bottom line is that makes you look more foolish than the posters you call out.  It seems you have some insight and can add to the conversation, tone it down a bit and we all might learn new things.

whatever you say boss.

I know full well teams gel over time, you aren't telling me anything I don't know since I have coached HS football before. It's not very hard to guess the outcome of a HS game looking at the team very closely, and actually watching the games in person or on film and figuring out what the team is all about. This is not the NFL where any team can beat another on any given Sunday. Most of the time in HS ball what you see is what you get because most coaches don't change what they do much from one game to the next. It all comes down to execution more than scheme and many teams can't do it no matter what scheme the coach comes up with and some coaches can't come up with a scheme to save their life and when you know these coaches it's very easy to be positive about an unknown that is unknown to others.

So even though I may look foolish to you and others that I call out, I call you out because I have inside info you don't have and I know for a fact you don't because if you did you wouldn't say some of the things I call you out on.

And I don't recall you being my father so I don't have to tone down anything. You don't like my tone, don't respond to what I say. Other wise kiss my behind. How about that for toning it down!!! One thing that ticks me off more than anything is people like you who think they can tell others what to do and how to be.

Cal pretty good stuff. Have to disagree with a few things based on the fact that I've watched on film on both teams. YV's D-line is better. They are more physical and much quicker and better tacklers than Concord's. I expect #57 on YV to have a big game.

Concord's QB has not been pressured much by any team they've played with exception to San Ramon Valley and they lost that game because of it. YV will also get pressure on him. The stats mean nothing based on the fact that Concord has not really played anyone. Most teams have let their receivers run free down field. This game will be physical and it will disrupt what Concord wants to do on both sides of the ball.

The defense is also not really a tie when again Concord has played a few teams that put up very little resistance. I saw them play De Anza and that game was a pure joke. De Anza is very young and not very well coached either. It was like watching Concord play a pop warner team. If you want to base things on stats then how about this one... Concord played a De Anza team that has scored only 24 total points in 8 games and given up 397. Not hard to look good on paper playing a team that can't fight it's way out of a paper bag. That was not the only patsy Concord played either.

Then  throw in on top of it the fact that Concord's coach tried to dictate the time and place of the game by asking YV to play them at a neutral site on Friday night instead of Saturday at YV and then can the game be moved back to 3:00 instead of 1:00 like it was scheduled to be. YV bent a little and the game is at 1:30 instead of 1:00.

They're arrogant and brag way too much about their success and it's going to catch up to them on Saturday.

only problem i have is that i have heard numerous times they have arrived at the volleyball games drunk...

These are very good POINTS you brought up Cal.  But I wanted to bring up some other stats that might be slanted toward Concord with myself being a CHS fan.  I do not claim to know that much about football but I have figured out that the team scoring the most POINTS in a game has been critical to the outcome of a Football contest.  The past couple of weeks YV and CHS has faced Clayton at CVHS.  I noticed that YV did very well in scoring 35 pts and won the game going away.  Concord has the advantage scoring 42 pts……..in the first half.  In fact, looking at the box score Concord scored 36pts in the 2nd qtr.

Speaking of Box scores I have every Saturday paper this year and Concord has only scored more than one TD in the 4th qtr once out of 8 games this season.  That’s where I disagree with a past comment about Concord “…smearing teams like Hamilton seems to”      The stats show that Concord does their “smearing” by the end of the 3rd qtr.

Stats show that Concord have the top 3 scorers in the league.  YV has 1 in the top 5.

I agree with your view about the Defenses being a tie but what does this mean? “CO is #1 this week after playing NG, YV has been #1 for many weeks”  YV played NG as well this season.

Concord 33 YV 21 is my fearless prediction because I feel Concord will score more POINTS than YV during the game(said with humor).   Enjoy the game everyone!

You ALL should actually go to these games instead of read box scores in making your points because when you post your comments you ALL look like idiots when people who have actually seen these two teams play in person or on film on more than one occasion read what you say.

And Chain Link you have certainly proved you know nothing about football if you base your comments solely on how many points Concord has score compared to YV. Who has Concord really played this year and how they scored those points is more of a gauge of what type of team they are. Easy to look great scoring 54 points against a team that has given up over 300 in 8 games and only scored 24. What does that stat tell you? I'll answer that. Concord played a cupcake. They've played several this year so your assessment on stats alone is only good for fertilizing my lawn.

And I'm not going to waste anymore time pointing out other truths about these two teams. It all comes down to who plays better on Saturday and I'll put my chips on YV since I've seen both teams play at least four times each.

A YV Win or loss we all want a full break down from you with as much energy as you have now leading up to the game.  You are not wasting your time online because people reading this post really care about what you have to say.

Good luck to both teams.  Have a great time out there boys.

Check it... MD did not lose to Hayward. Did not play Hayward. Lost to Oakland Tech, CV and YV. And Hamilton IS a blowhard. Trying to portray his players as Saints when in fact they are hammered lushes disrupting HS volleyball games. Pink socks won't change the stripes. I heard that once again, CHS is using illegal players this year. I guess getting a 14 year-old knocked out and carried off on a stretcher last year didn't have a lasting effect. Enjoy your record while it lasts. The jig is up, just because he isn't one of your stars won't save you. Illegal linemen are still illegal. Nothing worse than a cheating High School coach. Teaching life lessons.

Guys, the Northgate Frosh pulverized poor Mt. Diablo 50 - 0!  You can't say they ran up the score because it was 38 - 0 at half.  Would have been worse, but the last play at half that NG scored a TD on was called back for a penalty.  In the 2nd half with all the back-ups in, NG actually scored on 3 straight runs from 25 - 35 yards back when the first two were brought back for flags until the 3rd one stood up.

The MD frosh was way undersized and had about the same number of players as YV, less than 22 so kids have to play both ways.  They had a few injuries, probably because of being overmatched.  It's really sad.  You're talking about a NG team that isn't even at the top of the league, so what are the other good teams doing to them?  I'm glad YV and MD at least have teams and can compete, but it doesn't bode well for them in the future.  The whole league has to find ways to keep them on par so they can be competitive like their varsity clubs are doing this year.  So many questions with them.  One of the crossbars is crooked too!  I remember a couple years ago NG varsity beat them on a controversial fied goal, and that's the same crossbar, although I'm not sure it was bent at the time.

Clayton Valley at College Park

Clayton Valley takes it to College Park tonight.  CV's spent some extra practice / film time this week to right the ship.  It will pay off tonight.  CP is having a hard time playing thru all 4 quarters.  As I said earlier the loss of Danska and Schrader really hurt this team. Neither can ill afford to take a loss tonight CP to stay alive and CV to save face.

Mt D at Northgate

Mt D will run over NG. Morrow and Co. will take it to the young NG defense both in the air and on the ground.  NG's been playing with 3rd string QB hats off to the kid he's playing both ways.

NOW FOR THE SMACKDOWN EVENT:

Concord at Ygnacio Valley

This game will be won by YV reason being their DEFENSE!  When they played Mt D they sacked the QB 4X and hurried him all day and this kid's got a set of wheels.  Now Lloyd is a good QB don't get me wrong but, he and this offense have not to date faced what will be coming at them in ALL directions on Saturday for ALL  4 quarters. YV's Defense is best in league and we all know defense wins football games.  YV's offense can spread it around enough to eeekkk out this win.  Don't get me wrong this will be close!!! So, looking forward to seeing a great game and one team walking off that field in 1st place.

All football games are won by the team with the best defense.

Just to be clear, the CV/CP game is at 3pm.    Might still be raining too, that could be interesting.

True-it... I also know for a fact that YV's DB won't be sitting back 10 to 15 yards off Concord's WR and just let them catch the ball either like every team they've played did with exception to San Ramon Valley. Guess what, the strategy obviously works because Concord lost to them and Lloyd faced consistent pressure from  every direction in that game as well.

Concord better go to church and pray it doesn't rain during the game as well because if they have to run the ball they will be in for a long day trying to match YV's running attack with a back made for bad weather games it will be nice to see Concord try to tackle a back the size of Patrone in wet weather.

Sounds like you don't know what you're talking about. There isn't a single Concord player in the top 5 in rushing and they have almost 1,000 more yards passing than they do rushing. Doesn't look like a team that runs the ball much. Has nothing to do with being a YV fan and more to do with someone who has seen them play and can read stats.

Just a great defensive effort for the Falcons last night. Aside from the opening drive, in which they limited the damage to a FG, CP completely shut down the Uglies for a 18-3 victory. The Falcons held CV to just 14 yards passing and just 83 yards rushing on 28 carries, which is less than 3 yards per carry.

CV will lick their wounds and finish up against NG next week, but their NCS seeding has taking a beating the past 3 weeks. Not many people saw this one coming. The Jeckyl & Hyde Falcons have had some great efforts against Alhambra and CV, sandwiched around some very mediocre performances. They will have a chance to earn an NCS berth next week against a very tough YV squad. We'll see which CP squad shows up for that one.

With 1 minute left in the game the score was 36 to 22 YV. Very good game by the Warriors, offensively YV ran the ball down the throats of Concord. Defensively YV held concord to 15 points, other TD was by a Hightower kickoff return. YV just had a good defensive strategy put together by Def Cord. Todd Balueke;)

I have to give it up to Bluedog, who predicted YV would be able to hold the vaunted Minutemen offense in check.

Because they are a passing team buddy, but if they choose to run they can, and do so pretty well...Hightower gets close to 8 yards or more a carry

Ok first of all..jumped off the bay bridge? haha(no ones laughing) pretty sure this is high school football and you guys are commenting on these forums like it was the super bowl. NOBODY CARES! yeah yv had a good win, their defense was very well prepared for concords dynamic offense but come on dont you have anything else better to do than call out people who wanted to make a fun prediction? haha yeah lets see if your still here talking on these forums next year when patrone isnt there to convert on every 4th down, even though in the 4th quarter when yv was in the red zone patrone ran the ball on 4th down and refs spotted the ball after the stretch, when his knee was already down a good yard behind the first down mark and scoring on that drive which gave them the lead 28-22. its ok though the concord players were only exausted by this time from playing both ways on a saturday afternoon.

Whaaaa, whaaa, whaaaa... quit whining like a baby. NOBODY CARES huh? Obviously you do since you responded. Concord players were exhausted not from playing both ways and on a Saturday. The finally played somebody for a change, that's why they were gassed. They actually had to put in some work.

Maybe they should have saved some of their energy by not coming to YV for a 1:30 game at 10:30 in the morning and strut around the football field like they were the big man on campus at their opponents school. Typical sore loser response. make excuses about playing both ways and on a Saturday and about spots and blah, blah blah.

THE BOTTOM LINE IS CONCORD GOT THEIR BUTTS BEAT AND THAT SWAGGER THEY HAD BEFORE THE GAME IS NOW GONE.

I just wanted to say i never dissed on YV, "buddy"..first of all, it wasnt an excuse just making a statement that concord plays with 26 players (result of the majority of the jv last year that supposedly quit ) and in your words "got whooped" in a 36-30 loss, sounds like a can of whoop [bleep] if you ask me! =) jk..No but i see where your coming from "YV WARRIOR" backing up your fellow warriors and i respect that. YV came out ready to play. props to the defensive coordinator for making the adjustments to the defense this week and congrats to yv for the league title. Goodluck next week against CP. My prediction YV wins 38-14. Lets see if Concords offense lead by RICKY LLOYD is ready for the match up against MD.

I think YV will likely put 31 on the board, but I don't think CP will put 19 up.  My guess is the spread will be more than just 12 points.

I think that MT will make it a better game than everyone thinks.  They can now look at the YV defense film and see what they need to do to Concord. Concord will be playing pissed off and try to run up the score on MT to make a statement. I'm guessing the spread to be much closer than 25 points, I'll say 28-14 Concord wins, but the game will feel much closer than that score.

CV vs. NG makes me laugh, who would have thought Calpreps would project only a 6 point win over NG at the beginning of the season?  For purely underdog love I'll pick NG to win this one, their boys have worked HARD this year and deserve to beat someone in league play.  It would just make me feel warm all over if it was the Ugly Eagles that took the loss.   GO BRONCOS!

Fri 11/13  Ygnacio Valley (Concord, CA) at College Park (Pleasant Hill, CA), 3:00pm
projection: Ygnacio Valley (Concord, CA) 31-19
Fri 11/13  Mt. Diablo (Concord, CA) at Concord (CA), 7:00pm
projection: Concord (CA) 38-13
Sat 11/14  Clayton Valley (Concord, CA) at Northgate (Walnut Creek, CA), 1:00pm

The paper said 3 of Northgate's best players got injured last game, Stover (RB), Barney (QB), and Butler (RB), (2 of them were concussions and one was a back injury).  Losing any one of those guys would make it tough for them to beat CV, 2 or all 3, even that much harder in my opinion.

NORTHGATE WAS GOING TO LOOSE THE GAME WITH OR WITH THEM. THE DEFENSE HAS MORE WHOLES THAN SWISS CHEESE AND THE OFFENSE IS SO PREDICTABLE AND ONE DIMENSIONAL I'M SURPRISED THEIR FANS DON'T FALL ASLEEP WATCHING THEM PLAY.

CP will no doubt be motivated to win this game, as their season is over with a loss. However, a win would likely result in a first round meeting with DLS, Berkeley or Deer Valley under the new format, as the NCS will take all teams that qualify up to 16, and CP would not be higher than a 14 seed at best. But I will take YV to keep rolling and finish off the stubborn Falcons.

Concord better come out ready to play, as you know MD will. Concord wins this if they show up ready to play. A NG win over defending DVAL champion CV would be a great way to finish out their season, and a sad ending for the Uglies, but I just don't see it happening. However, I didn't see CP beating them so soundly this week either. Go Broncos!

I don't see it happening either, but hey, they also gave Alhambra their only loss of the season and played somewhat close with Serra. YV may come in overconfident after their big win last week. CP needs this win to make the playoffs. We'll see which CP team shows up this week. If it is midseason CP, then your 28-7 score looks about right. But if it is the team that crushed CV and beat Alhambra, then it could be a tight battle.

Respectfully 001, I wouldn't say CP "crushed" CV.  I watched that game and CV just plain sucked. I don't want to minimize CP's win, but they had a lot of help from a seemingly demoralized CV team.  My opinion is that CV can't get over the fact that they have 3 losses in league play after coming off a 16 win streak.  It seems like if they can't win every game they just don't want to play.  From the coaches to the players it looked as if CV didn't even want to be there that day.  The CV coaches have a "different" way of coaching, and it's not working on these boys.  I'll wager that CV is a first round casualty in NCS.

If the CP team that beat CV shows up to play YV, I think YV wins it easily.  If the CP team that ran with Serra and Alhambra shows up, that's a different matter.  CP has nothing to lose and EVERYTHING to gain (NCS).  I'll still take YV, but they'll work for it.

I would have to agree with you on the CP game on Friday. After that 1st drive when CV drove the length of the field ( I thought it was going to be a long day for CP) and CV only managed a field goal they were demoralized and did nothing the rest of the game. The CV defense played pretty good but CP played better. To me in watching CV the OC is very weak they run the same plays and are very easy to defend. I think they have some good players but he is not doing a good job and it shows. After that 1st drive when they went right down the field CP made some adjustments and he could not make any, but I am not sure what you mean about all the coaches  havng a different way of coaching?? I also saw the YV game on Saturday and that YV coaching staff is good they did a great job on both sides of the ball. They deserve to be the DVAL champs.

In regard to a different way of coaching, what I meant was that in my admittedly limited exposure to the CV coaching staff, it seems that all I've heard is outrage, trash talk and belittling of the CV players by the CV coaches.  I haven't been impressed by them at all.  I don't hear teaching, correction or encouragement, all I saw and heard was outrage and name calling by the coaches towards the kids.  I've heard that the CV coaches even talk trash to opposing team's players on the field during warmups.  Considering what I have seen firsthand, it isn't hard for me to believe that report.

Kids will endure that stuff if they have something to show for it at the end of the day, like a win.  They'll suck it up and take it because they acheived something, but if they are constantly berated AND lose, then the kids will surely breakdown, become defensive and lose interest very quickly.

In my opinion (which is worth nothing), that's what has happened with CV.

I just wanted to say about my "lame excuse".. you think kids dont get tired just because of a day off of practice? i dont even think teams even take a day off practice Especially since it was for the league championship. Furthermore, your obviously like the most unappreciated guy in these forums( as i read in the ncs breakdown, people didnt like you so much) ,and  you keep pissing people off. I mean starting unnecessary arguements about High School Football, why cant we all just be friends?

I don't care if you or anyone else likes me. I'm not here to be popular. Your reasons why Concord lost the game against YV were lame. They were then and they still are now I'm not going to sugar coat things to make you or anyone else happy or be liked by you when you post BS like that.  I see you keep making the same lame excuses for them too.

"you think kids dont get tired just because of a day off of practice? i dont even think teams even take a day off practice Especially since it was for the league championship."

If they didn't take the day off and practiced extra just to loose the game anyway then who's fault is that?

You seem to forget that there was another team on the other side of the ball in the game playing for the championship too. I'm pretty sure they were just as tired as Concord was. Had THEY lost the game I'll bet you wouldn't have heard any of their supporters come on here crying about how they were tired after having an extra day to prepare for a football game. But I guess we'll never know because they manned up and took care of business didn't they? If hearing the truth pisses you off then that's your problem isn't it. The only arguments I get on here are from people like you who I point out the truth to and as Jack Nicholson said in the movie "A Few Good Men" YOU CAN"T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!

Wanna be my friend, stop crying like a baby and making excuses for Concord and just simply admit that YV was the better team and wanted to win the game more and did what they had to do to win the game.

They didn't go into the game with a bunch of meaningless swagger strutting around the field during the JV game at their opponents school like Concord did acting like they owned the place nor did they talk smack to Concord's freshmen players during the game at Concord the day before talking about how much better they were and how they were going to kick butt and all the other BS Concord did and does.

They settled things ON THE FIELD without anything but hard work and guts. Concord got what they deserved, a humbling BEAT DOWN by a better team. Stop whining about them being tired and all the other excuses you can muster up for their loss and deal with it... and move on.

If you don't like what I said too bad. Don't respond back to me with more excuses either then and you won't see another word from me.

Two more serious clashes on are hand this Friday as Ygnacio Valley visits College Park for a 3 P.M. date.......The Falcons had a rough time this year and if they want to get into the NCS playoff's, they have to defeat YG....playing CP on CP's field, you would think would give the Falcon's an edge, but the warriors are red hot.    Another war is on hand as Mt. Diablo invades Concord...After MD edged College Park you would think that that would jump start the Red Devils, but the minute men's passing attack may be too much for Mt. diablo....And  Clayton Valley takes on the Bronco's.

Ygnacio Valley Vs. College Park......YG 26...CP 12   The Warriors want to go undefeated in league play and CP needs the win, but it will be YG's defense that will do the job again...

Mit. diablo Vs. Concord .....Concord 37...Mt. Diablo 24....The Minutemen recover from last weeks loss and take care of the Red devils..

Clayton Valley Vs. North Gate.....CV 33...NG 13.....The Bronco's go winless in league play this season...

I'm a little confused on the winning of the league title....did YV win it or just clinch a tie with Concord for it?

Chace Bryson reports that YV clinched a tie.  If YV loses and CO wins this weekend, they would have the same record in league play, but I would think the head to head win of YV over CO would make YV the league champions.   That must not be the case, as Chace certainly knows more about how all this works than I do.

I'm confused by some saying YV won it, yet the CCTimes reporting they just clinched a tie.

It is different with each league, but for NCS purposes, the designated league champ is determined by the league record, and the tie breaker is head to head. Thus, if YV loses and Concord wins this week, they would officially tie for the league title with identical records, but YV would get the automatic NCS berth and potential home game that comes with being the designated league champion.  So YV has clinched the NCS league champ designation, but they could potentially tie for first and both teams get first place banners. I can see why that is confusing, but NCS won't recognize 2 teams from the same league as champions for purposes of the playoffs. .

Ill take your list and just make some additions

Offense

QB- Lloyd (Con) & Nesheim (YV), these guys will go #1 and #2, Morrow from MD will probably get the honorable mention

RB- Stover (NG), Wood (YV), Mckillip (CV)

WR- Galindo (CON), Childs (CON), Owens (YV), the other YV WR is worthy of at least honorable mention or 2nd team.

TE- Raciti (CP), YV TE #44 is very good, Portolo

OL- Rolandelli (CP), Cummings (CP), Hill (MD), Flores (YV).  I think you mean #66 from MD... Lockett.  CV has a couple very good OL but cant remember their names

All Purpose- Turner (MD)- best player in the league

 Defense

DL- Raciti (CP), Faiva (MD), Rios (YV),  Carlson from CV is good. Lockett from MD.

LB- Pica (CON), Cummings (CP), Bughair (CV). Cummings is the dirtiest player in the league.  the #1 LB in the league is #54 from MD.  He is in the top of the bay area in total tackles.

DB- Turner (MD), Hightower (CON), Ortega (YV)

Porchet from YV needs to be recognized somewhere. he is the best corner in the league, tackles very well, and rarely do people throw his way. he is also one of the top rushers in the league!

i disagree with turner being the best player in the league, Dont get me wrong he is very good player and the 2nd best player in the league. The best player is Hightower. His cut back ability and his burst is fantastic!

Concord fan's are you for real?  You lost against YV because you have players that go both ways? The practice schedule hurt you?  NOT... The reason you lost was YV's DEFENSE best in league sat you down.  Also, you may remember it was Hightower (C)  who publicly stated in previous CC Times article they train to play both ways just like all GOOD players at the highj school level.  They are quite accustome to it most if not all have been doing it since their days in Pop Warner.  You must have missed the YV players going both ways.  LAME excuse!!!! If you had any decency you would apologize it makes you look small and absolutely PATHETIC!

Yeah College Park got a win.  Now this is a W for CP but, seriously get real with the bravado.  CV lost their QB in the first quarter the same team that has 3 L's in league. So, yes it's a win but ease up this  win is like kissing your sister.  Beat YV then you can talk.

I said Mt D would run over NG boy did they. NG suffered (3) concussions (2) back injuries & a knee injury all on starters who never returned.  Morrow & Co will finish the season with a winning record for the first time since 1995!!!  Morrow is just a great athlete and for sure All League QB. Now I know NG doesn't have lights but, are we sure they have bladders in their helmets? The concussions on this team are border line abuse:

Barney QB - out 2nd concussion

Stover  RB- out  med/ mild grade concussion

Cost QB - out 4th concussion

Hamilton LB - out severe concussion

So, the All League picks look spot on Hightower (C) is some kinda player, heard he got a full ride to Arizona. I think you need to add #20 Butler RB /DB from NG he's worth a mention.

There are a few rb's who aren't on my list that could be deserving of all league honors, but can't have everyone right? With tyhe league as competitive as it was this year, there will be many debates on who got 1st team over 2nd team. Morrow is a decent athlete, but will be honorable mention. His stats, nor his teams winning % compare to Lloyd or Nesheim. Hightower is a very good athlete and I look forward to seeing him grow into a D1 player. Anybody elese has some additions to the list to be recognized?

While Nesheim gets props for YV's record, There are 3 great QB's in the league this year. Lloyd has produced all year, but does throw more than his share of picks. Morrow has shown he can be a force running the ball lately, getting many first downs in short yardage situations. Last week he scored 4 TD's on the ground and gained 99 yards. YV has had a great year and Nesheim has led the way. Great season for all three.

there's only 2 words that even define the dval. Ygnacio Valley!

all i can say is thank god for the dval because non of these "fabulous" teams or "premier" players (LOL) except YV would stand a chance in any other more competative league. except maybe the laughable dfal.

yv at least held their own in bval. cv was a joke there (bval) and conc was the dfal kicking post. cp? who cares?

yeah, i know campo beat yv last year in post but there's a lot to be said for dumb luck (campo) and dumb coaches (yv) in that game.

Here's how I see it in regards to the receivers:

In this case, I think there can be no argument that Galindo is first team DVAL.  His statistics set him so far apart they cannot be argued.  Congratulations to Galindo for a certain first team nod.

The other WR and 2nd team and honorable mention nods get a lot more difficult to see from here.  Unfortunately, the stats for receivers are listed in order of receptions.  So little dink passes here and there or even passes for lost yardage are counted.  This is the one statistical list that I think is flawed in it's reporting.

If you re-sorted the statistics by every other column besides receptions, a YV player is #2 (and 3) behind Galindo in EVERY category.  So rather than seeing Owens(YV) at 4th place and assuming he is the 4th best, you need to see the other categories and determine what is more beneficial to a team...catches? yards? td's? average?  In my opinion, catches is the least telling of the effectiveness of a receiver.

Here's the breakdown:

Yards: Galindo-620 (CO), Owens-436 (YV), Childs- 338 (CO) Buford-294 (CO), Jones-278 (YV)

Average: Galindo-15.1(CO), Owens-15.0 (YV), Jones 13.2 (YV), Childs-10.6(CO), Hightower 10.5(CO)

TD's: Galindo-12(CO), Jones-7(YV), Hightower-5(CO), Childs-3(CO), Buford-3(CO)

Receptions: As listed below, with Jones just off the list with 21.

These statistics also bear out my argument that Nesheim earned first team QB.  YV has only 2 receivers in their first year at that position, and Nesheim has thrown the ball HALF as much as Lloyd.  CO has a group of excellent recievers yet YV leads all others except for Galindo, who at 6'5" is a man among children.

It's not going to be easy to figure out All-League honors.....

Player G Rec Yards Avg. TD
Corey Galindo, Concord 9 41 620 15.1 12
Angelo Childs, Concord 9 32 338 10.6 3
Ray Buford, Concord 9 29 294 10.1 3
Willie Owens, Ygnacio Valley 9 29 436 15.0 2
Forrest Hightower, Concord 9 23 242 10.5 5

If you look at the statistics for the DVAL, it really is only a race between Lloyd and Nesheim.  The other 3 QB's are in a race for mediocrity and honorable mention.

Lloyd had almost exactly 2x the attempts that Nesheim did.  Concord doesn't apologize for putting the ball in the air, but mere numbers don't make you a great QB.   If you double all of Nesheim's stats (since Lloyd attempted 2x as many passes) you'll see that statistically it is a virtual tie between them.  The effectiveness of the QB is almost identical for those two teams.  Because of this tie, you have to go beyond the statistics and see who gets the nod, and in my opinion there is no question it is Nesheim.

Nesheim= First year QB! (injured and sat out all last season), First year with new offense, First year with new coach, First year with new receivers, far more mobile than Lloyd, and he won the head to head in a very big game.

Lloyd= experienced with these coaches, offense and receivers (one of which is Galindo, a man-child at 6'5")

If I had to choose, I would take Nesheim on my first team, he has the intangibles when the statistics are comparable.

Player G Comp Att Pct. Yards INT TD Rat
Ricky Lloyd, Concord 9 162 273 59.3 2,219 13 30 154.4
Adam Nesheim, Ygnacio Valley 9 86 155 55.5 1,105 7 14 136.14
Ethan Morrow, Mt. Diablo 9 43 104 41.3 669 9 8 103.46
Tyler Fjellbo, Clayton Valley 9 51 104 49.0 637 13 9 104.05
Taylor Valdez, College Park 9 43 84 51.2 615 5 2 108.64

Nice try... but your grasping at straws to prove your private agenda point. It's just not that easy as doubling stats for a match up, the more you throw the more bad things can happen. There is no way you can simply discount Lloyd's numbers. Who knows what would have happened if Nesheim threw the ball twice as much ....that’s just speculation. The numbers are what they are and Lloyd's 30 TD's and over 2000 yards and a 59.3% is huge accomplishment that can't be discounted. Even throwing twice as much Lloyd's completion % is still higher.

With Lloyds Passing stats at number 3 in the East Bay behind Nottingham & Mannion and 19th in the state on maxpreps it gets harder to say that the 500 players lower on that maxpreps passing leader list is a what if you just double all there stats?

What if? What if Morrow, Fjellbo and Valdez threw 4 times as much...where does it end!  YV has great RB in Mr. Woods and Porschet. Concord has some receivers both teams played to their strengths. If YV threw the ball twice as much you can take Woods and Porschet off the RB leader list. You have had a great season! be proud.... but don't try and steal another young man's accomplishments! There is No Tie!

Your welcome to an opinion on who you would rather have…but that all it is an opinion.

Obviously.  EVERYTHING on the internet is opinion, why would this board be any different? ..but thank you for allowing me to express mine.....

I understand your points, and they certainly have merit.  It can't be as cut and dried as looking at the best stats from each individual in the league and calling that your first team all league team, can it? Then why do the coaches even meet to name an all-league team?  All you'd need is a stat list and a calculator.....   Certainly there is more to the equation than just stats, right?  Who do YOU think had a bigger mountain to climb this season to be a the QB of a DVAL championship team, Lloyd or Nesheim?  (they're tied right now for the championship, so that is a fair question)

Nowhere did I try to steal anybody's accomplishments, please don't mischaracterize my post by saying that I did.  I acknowledge that it is a race between Lloyd and Nesheim.  Look at the QB rating column, you see what that is?  It is rating is calculated using each quarterback's completion percentage, passing yardage, touchdowns and interceptions.  Know why they came up with this QB rating system?  So that players could be compared on their performance and not on their stats.  It's not all about stats, that is my point. It's clear that Lloyd has an 18 point lead in the QB rating with one game left in the season.  Also note that the next closest QB is 28 points behind. Given the intangibles that Nesheim brings to the table, he still would be my choice.   If Lloyd were to receive first team (which he likely will), you couldn't argue against that either.

It's very easy to discount some of Lloyd's stats if you actually look at the games he's played and how he got the stats. #1. He plays in an offense where his numbers are generated from YAC (yards after the catch) meaning he throws quick short passes and the receivers break a tackle and take off. Not hard to rack up yards when the guy you threw the pass to is getting most of the yards. #2 He has played against several teams where the defense is just flat out no good. De Anza is a prime example. That game was more like a 7 on 7 than an actual game. He was never pressured and the receivers were never challenged because DA's dbs basically conceded the game to them by playing 10 to 15 yards off them the WHOLE game. De Anza'a defense has given up a staggering 428 points this season and scored only 24, meaning they can't do anything on either side of the ball. #3 When he has played a team with a good defense (San Ramon Valley and YV) his numbers have dipped considerably because now he actually has to throw with some pressure on him and in most cases his completion percentage suffers big time and his interceptions go up as well. If you guys want to make him a great QB by just looking at stats alone then fine he is the best thing since sliced bread. But if you want to judge him on the WHOLE package of a QB then he is not the best there is out there. I'm sure ALL Concord fans would disagree though. You all do anything to make yourselves out to be more than you really are.

The NG frosh played great against undefeated in league Champ CV, but lost 26 - 16.  Jimmy Sharpe put NG out in front, 6-0, with a 3rd and 21 deep in NG's own territory, when he went up the middle for an 83 yard romp.  He doesn't go down, so when he breaks into the secondary, he'll break tackles at then it's a pleasure watching him turn on the burners because they can't catch him.  The other TD, was in the first half, when NG went on 4th and 11 from deep in their own territory (they don't punt well), when Jimmy broke another one for about 67 yards.  Unfortunately, with the score 19-16 CV, NG was driving and a CV blitzer disrupted a handoff, intercepting it actually, and went the other way for about 70 yards for a game changer.  They started sending everybody at the QB, trying to disrupt the plays before they could hand off to Jimmy.  Didn't always work, but the time it did and resulted in a turnover for a score, was a killer.  The NG frosh got better each game, and they have some good size and some other fast kids too.  I think with the good JV team ahead of them, NG will be alright in the future so don't expect them to be doormats, especially after seeing the problems the MD and YV freshman teams are experiencing right now.

Ok so lets look at the Deanza game since it sounds like you think his stats were built on the back of that game. At De Anza Lloyd only played the 1st half, Jefferson game play stoped due to field lights going out with 1 min. into the 4th qtr. Of course a good defense changes things that why they are good and and they get props for that, but even on the two teams that you mention for strong defense he still put up over 200 yrds and the completion rate was a little low but acceptable.

  1. De Anza 8 for 11 177 yrds Comp% .727 5Td's 0-Int
  2. Jefferson 24 for 35- 356 yrds Comp% .686 4Td's 1-Int
  3. Skyline 9 for 14 135 Yrds Comp% .643 2Td's 1-Int
  4. San Ramon 26 for 48 254 yrds Comp% .542 2td's 4-Int
  5. Castlemont 12 for 30 183 yrds Comp% .400 3Td's 3-Int
  6. College Park 24 for 34 357 yrds Comp % .706 5Td's 0-Int
  7. Clayton Valley 23 for 36 383 yrds Comp% .639 6Td's 2-Int
  8. Northgate 16 for 27 140 yrds Comp% .593 1 Td 0-Int
  9. Ygnacio Valley 20 for 38 234 yrd's Comp% .526 2Td's 2-Int

1105 yrds 16TD's out of league & 1114 yrds 14td's in league with 1 game left to play. San Ramon and Castlemont were a huge QB learning experiance thats part of being a Junior and learning to not try and force things as a passing QB, sometimes it's better to just throw it away down the sideline. That will come with maturity at the position and that is what it is.

His biggest games came mostly from league play but in league or out the numbers are fairly consistent, thus the case for 1st team.  Now as with any QB his receivers are a huge part of his success and Galindo has been a favorite target or he just caught the ball more. However, the ball was spread around to Childs, Buford, Hightower, Pica and Starnes. They all got the chance to make their catches and they did well. Plus you must give huge props to the O-line who gave him time to throw.... it all factors in....ultimate team sport!... Oh and huge props to Concord QB coach Bell he has spent a ton of time working with Lloyd this year and last year and to coach Hamilton for many things for all the CHS football palyers way to numerous to list.

As for the lack of mobility claim that's just a style difference some Qb's Bug out and run with pressure others step up in the pocket and trust the line to do their job and throw, both can work thats just a matter of what they are coached to do or who they are. Last year as a sophomore Lloyd was not the Concord varsity starter he maybe got a series per varsity game, the starter was Buford and running worked very well for him for that was his style. Watch Lloyd's freshman vid on Youtube he ran a ton ...I know that's freshman... but it shows it's not for lack of running ability.

It's just what he has been coached to do hang in there under pressure and let the play develop, play to your strength find the open man and hit him with the ball.  Does he take hits because of it? Sometimes, but either way running or staying in the pocket the QB is getting hit, that's part of the game. A Qb's job is to do what he's coached to do, this season Lloyd's job was to throw, No apoligies, No excuses but you never know that might just change.

He's not being made out for more than he is.......the numbers are real no what if's or trying to double his stats to try an prove a point!  There in black and white and a measurment of some success.

Yes we love our team and thats the way it should be, thats all to say an address your last sentance. Just to give you some validation you deserve, your team has had a great season and had great game against Concord with a great game plan and they executed well but it was Mr. Wood who was the standout an a difference maker in that game..well done!

CHS Fan-- I think it is clear that Lloyd will get 1st team honors, I don't think anybody expects Nesheim to get 1st team.  My point is merely that statistic alone don't EVER show the whole picture.  You sort of stumbled on my point a bit when you said "A Qb's job is to do what he's coached to do, this season Lloyd's job was to throw".  In my post I was trying to take out the differences in play calling and try to compare the QB's side by side.  It struck me that Nesheim's stat line was almost exactly 50% of Lloyds stat line in every category. By doubling Nesheim's stats you can get an idea where he would be statistically if they had the same number of attempts as Lloyd.  That makes it much easier to compare the two on the effectiveness of their individual play when the COACH CALLED A PASS PLAY.  I'm guessing Nesheim would like to throw every play, and the receivers would like to catch on every play.  The RB wants to run it on every play, etc.  Both Nesheim and Lloyd (as far as I know) don't call their own plays, they are at the mercy of the offensive coordinator's call.   Since the stat lines had such an interesting relationship to one another, in my opinion it was easy to compare their effectiveness side by side.

You make it sound as if I pulled some multiplier out of my butt just to try to make Nesheim look better, I've tried to explain my reasoning as best I can.

Bottom line is that it is a treat to be able to argue the accomplishments of two very good football players with a very bright senior year still ahead of them.  I look forward to seeing Lloyd's beautiful spirals fill the air next year and Nesheim's scrappy hustle move the Warriors forward.

"YV TAKE IT TO THE HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!YOU #1 PERIOD"?

Just what does that mean? Looks like CP took YV to the house, and earned an NCS berth with 2 big wins to finish the season. If they can get a #15 berth, they can avoid having to play DLS in the 1st round.
