Outside Andrew Cruz put on the performance of the year to lead College Park past scrapping Monte Vista in 4. As the crowd roared louder and louder "MVP, MVP", Cruz once had a stretch of 3 laser kills, his block for a score and then 3 service pts. He carried CP much of the time when other things were breaking down in the last 3 games to get the tough win in 4.
The 1st game was showtime for the CP arsenal and MV looked shook. But CP became ragged in the 2nd and MV held a lead until CP closed near 23. But MV prevailed @ 26-24. The 'Stangs were rejuvinated. In the 3rd, CP was sloppy again but finally caught up at 24-24. Setter Nick Kalustian dumped a set for the advantage and then...AGAIN for the winner. The 4th was CP up by 13-10 with at least 7 of the MVs points on CP errors. But CP held and closed out the match @ 25-21. Very loud crowd for both teams as MV fans were all in red.

It sounds like all the games were very close, which is nice to hear.
The foothill-amador game was AMAZING. some of the best volleyball I've ever seen. This game was head-and-shoulders above the game last thursday. Easily the best game either team has probably played all season. Each team played great defense, and although some officiating was questionable (Dusty got a yellow?) the players didn't let that detract from the quality of the game. Foothill played with near no mistakes and Amador was slamming the ball down all night. Final score- 25-22 (Foothill), 25-20 (Amador), 25-23 (Foothill), 27-25 (Amador). In the last game, Amador was down 24-22 and managed to pull it back to 25-25 in front of the foothill home crowd. Also, if you add up the total scores from the match, it was 97-95, Foothill. VERY high intensity on both sides of the court. All in all, it was a NCS-final quality match. Amador was plagued by missed serves in the third and fourth games, more so in the fourth, but it was a very impressive and entertaining game to watch.
Also, the singers who did the national anthem before the game were very good.

they were good, but what about amador's team filling the gap and singing the anthem at their home court, that was entertaining.

Monte Vista gained some respect vs CP. MV never got much respect saying they would lose to NG in 3 and then CP in 3.
Both CP and MV played well tonight. Who would of thought the 10 seed would make that much noise vs the 2 seed.
CP might want to learn some sportsmanship with fans writing rude things on their white board against MV players and yelling during the serve.
Big ups to MV 7th man most respectful fans in NCS so far!
BACKROW were you at the game? Were you the one talking to MV coach after the game?

Agreed, Monte Vista has come a long from the season opening pounding the received from Amador Valley. It's always very disappointing to hear about bad sportsmanship from fans, as all that happens is they disgrace their school. Fans should realize that just because they are not playing the game doesn't mean they are above sportsmanship, or that it is too cool. Kudos to the 7th man from MV. Cue applause

I was at the game. Give me a break with this CP needs to learn sportsmanship. As far as i could see, one player wrote a bad thing, and 1 time there was cheering during the serve purposely and that was at the very end, the other time was just noisy commotion amongst the fans talking. Both teams had 7th man shirts.. so yea, props to Monte Vista I guess. You must be a monte Vista parent.
Good game overall, and you worry about the game, not the fans. If you cant handle people yelling your in the wrong sport, cause it happened from both teams.

Whoa there. Firstly I don't appreciate you making assumptions based on my opinions. I was not at the game, I was at the Amador-Foothill game. And I am most definitely not a monte vista parent. Secondly, I did not say anything about CP having bad sportsmanship, my comments were directed at the fans, and based on the impression I got from one of the other posts. Thirdly, my opinions were not just directed at CP fans, but at all fans. The next few sentences are directed at fans of all sports. In my opinion, the generation of youth in high school these days is too focused on degrading their opponents, and not focused enough on their own team. Instead of yelling at referees or opponents, support your team, no matter what the outcome, and don't worry about the other factors. That's the best quality a fan can have.
In no way were my comments directed at CP's cheering section, their team, or their school.
From what I've heard about the game, it's obvious that Cruz transformed into a Volleyball god, and I can't wait to see their next game against Washington. I wish I could see the game tape, could someone, like, put it on youtube or something? In the end, of course College Park was the better team. I just think it's commendable that a team like monte vista can go from getting stamped on to competing with some of the best teams in the area.

well my reply wasnt to you, it was to the guy above you, so sorry.
Cruz was unstoppalbe, as the MVP chants came from the fans. It was a huge crowd, and everytime he did anything, you could hea rthe MVP's goin off. Just off a guess i would say he had about 17 kills

im not a parent just a MV supporter but David Mason had i think he said 14kills but just not a big celebrator, just his style.
If Cruz was in EBAL he could be a MVP nomination and from my view deserves MVP recognition for DFAL?
Funny thing is alot of CP and MV players are all old club friends so there was not much animosity towards each other mostly just from fans vs their schools opponent.

so you have nothing to say in my response to your original post? about how CP fans need to learn sportsmanship? its pretty low to call out a whole fan base because one fan said something bad, and he said something bad to a player who basically brought it upon himself. As a DFAL fan i could say i hate to play CP with those fans. Careful when calling out a whole fan base. And the 7th man thing, was both teams not just MV

well i really appreciate all of the kudos everyone is giving me, means a lot. i would have to say my school (CP) does have a really rowdy fan base and do try to yell at the opponents instead of respect the game but what school now a days doesn't do that?
oh and i only had 19 kills, and we all are old club members so there was no hostility towards each other. if it comes off as cp has bad sportsmanship, i think its just that we are a very emotional team

thank you andrew for what you just said. Yes maybe it is mistaken for being rowdy. But when a fan writes number 1 your a B*tch or something to that extent on a white board its disrespectful, hence why the white board was taken away.
Im not saying MV were all saints but at the same time they came to support their team, first time in eight years MV has been to NCS and ten graduating seniors really wanted it to be their year. Im glad to see a mutual respect between players though.
Andrew where will you be playing after HS?

Im not bitter at the MV loss at all.
MV did a great job. Look at the scores....
I don't think CP ever expected MV to do this well. And im not knocking the fact that CP does have dedicated fans.
Just showing that at this particular match there were some unsportsmanlike fans in their crowd and i will generalize it only because i don't know who it was or their names. If MV did this we would have a CP fan more then likely saying this about MV? right?
MV also had lots of problems at Foothill and when Cal was at MV. Some other good fans were AV, supportive without really being rude.

as much as i know i'm gonna get "they need to be mature" for this one. these are all a bunch of high school kids trying to have some fun and play head games. thats why they are in the stands. you can't sit here and try to call out 1 single person because he clearly doesn't try to start anything between him and the player he is just trying to get into his head. yes CP does have a VERY rowdy crowd, but they are some of the best fans in norcal and you have to accept and wish you had fans like that. they go all out just like their team...

Oh, they were yelling at number one? Lol that explains it. His style is very... inspired. It's great for motivating his team, but I see why they might pick on him a little. Understood. Thanks, everyone for clearing that up.

Some 1 fan...who most never heard? Small potatoes. How about the last time Foothill was at CAL High (before tonight). In that pit, CAL had a Jv player in the balcony up behind the Foothilll servers...timing a scream to disrupt the serve. Finally the ref figured it out and stopped the game until the guy...slowly...came down, picked up his gear and and exited the building as.....everyone else waited. It was a righteous move by the ref.
