This town has a serious crime problem. Too many people around here just don't know how to act as human beings. I feel like im driving around in an episode of cops. Please APD, hire people that shoot first and ask questions later. I know we may lose some innocents in the process, but im afraid to go outside anymore. It seems like its only a matter of time before violence breaks out on a large scale. Good luck fellow residents.

I agree KimballKid.
This town needs someone like Dirty Harry that will clean these streets up with swift vengance and no remorse!
I have recently become more proactive in the fight to decrease violence and crime in Antioch so I bought a .45 caliber handgun to help assist me. I take it with me fully loaded, one in the chamber and safety off, every where I go. I do not hesitate for one second to draw my weapon on anyone that looks like they are about to commit a crime. I sleep well at night knowing my actions have increased the overall safety in my community.
Antioch has become a war zone and I am here to terminate with extreme prejudice. See you on the battlefield Kimballkid!

I have no idea what you mean by carry conceal license. I am a responsible gun owner and my right to bear arms allows me to carry my weapon with me whenever I think someone will commit a crime against me or someone in my community. I keep it loaded and on my waist at all times but not concealed, what do you think I am some kind of criminal?

California Penal Code:
12031. (a) (1) A person is guilty of carrying a loaded firearm when
he or she carries a loaded firearm on his or her person or in a
vehicle while in any public place or on any public street in an
incorporated city or in any public place or on any public street in a
prohibited area of unincorporated territory.
This does not even cover the 911 call regarding a man with a gun. Many officers with guns pointed at a man with a gun....there is a potential of someone getting hurt or killed.
Are you some kind of criminal? If you are carrying the gun illegally....YES.

while i agree with you, there is more to it:
It is unlawful to carry a loaded rifle, shotgun, or handgun in any public place or on any public street in an incorporated area or an area where firing a firearm is prohibited.
Exceptions include:
Carrying a handgun concealed is prohibited without a license. The law states "Firearms carried openly in belt holsters are not concealed within the meaning of this section."
Carrying a handgun concealed within a vehicle is prohibited without a license. A handgun carried in a glove compartment or under the seat of a vehicle is considered to be concealed. A handgun placed in the trunk of an automobile, or locked in a container in the vehicle other than the utility or glove compartment or while in a locked container carried directly to or from a vehicle is deemed not to be "concealed." A locked container means a fully enclosed secure container locked by a key lock or similar locking device.
Exceptions to this prohibition are:

Really, "one in the chamber, safety off"... Sounds like Antioch is much safer with you on the loose! Let's pray for the innocent ones that don't meet your approval. Hopefully you'll Mirandize them before you take them down. Maybe we should all chip in and get a light bar for your vehicle. I really feel at ease knowing you're prowling my community half baked, half cocked and half of your senses. I'm staying home.

Hello Mr. Temptation,
I hope I don't come across anyone that resembles the intimidating looking person in your avatar. I will be forced to quickdraw my firearm and shoot from the hip if they look like they are going to commit a crime. I once had a perfect score on duck hunt so believe me Antioch is much safer when I'm patrolling the streets.

Nick,
If you "quickdraw my firearm and shoot from the hip if they look like they are going to commit a crime" you will definitely become someone's girlfriend in prison. You better make sure that they are, in fact, committing a crime AND someone's life is in jeopardy. You CANNOT shoot someone to protect property! Recently, a busniness owner was arrested after he was robbed. Why? He chased the suspects and shot at their car as they were fleeing. The threat to life was over. If he shot them inside the business, it might have been a different story. Know the laws before you get yourself or someone else shot and / or killed.

Mr. T,
I don't even know why you even bother arguing with the ones that are trying to make this a race issue. When I first moved to Antioch from San Francisco, I was very frustrated about all the "why are you moving out there with those people" comments from friends and colleagues. There was this perception that Antioch was made up of low income, uneducated whites, and that domestic violence, alcoholism and meth usage was rampant. I don't like the broad mean-spirited negative characterization of people, and those types of statements made me angry.
What I found when I got here was that there were some really wonderful folks living in Antioch of all races, and I have enjoyed living here. On the dark side, there are also some real racists here too. Most fit the profile I was warned about and some have said some very insulting and racists things about me and about members of my family. But by far, people in Antioch are great folks, and i have many wonderful, close, multi-cultural relationships here that I cherish and depend on.
I have also seen the rise in crimes being committed by black youth here, and throughout the country. It is a real problem, and one I am very concerned about. However, it is not an exclusively black problem, and definitely not an exclusively section 8 problem. In fact, the numbers of white youth joining the Norteno gang is rising at an alarming rate, and the consequences are just beginning to be known. This balance is going to take intelligence, collaboration, patience, prayer, persistence and love to win.
For me, I mostly stay off the boards now because anger drains me, and when I read about people talking about killing others, and loading up guns, and getting rid of "the blacks" it just makes me angry, and I can't do my work and be angry at the same time. I have an extremely brilliant and well educated son, a beautiful and well educated daughter-in law, an honor student grandson, and beautiful little grandaughter that I will not allow to move here because of some of the racist remarks I have read on this board. See, I know that I can take the hits and keep on moving forward because I have a mission, but I don't know how I would respond to somebody calling one of my loved ones the "n" word. It would probably not be pretty :-)
Stay cool Mr. T, and come and join us in some of our work. We need more volunteers who want to help make a difference in our community. We are more than a hundred strong now, and have seen some miraculous changes with some of these kids who have gone from failure and violence to academic and social success.

Thanks Iris, it's good to see you, Stoney and BJ still tapping away on these forums. Honestly I'm not losing any sleep over any of this dialogue but I don't mind offering a counterpoint to what I've been reading. Don't expect much from it but at least two sides are represented.
You'll have to tell me more about what you're doing because I'm always willing to stick my nose in. I've been fortunate enough to be able to work closer to home now with kids as well and I've got to tell you, with all of these kids I've come across, there hasn't been one thug in the bunch. I'm not blind or naive. There are wannabes out here but the vast majority of these kids are good, respectful and full of hope. They don't need someone else' garbage piled on them. Let me know. I'm always up for something good.

We are having an orientation for interested prospective new volunteers July 9th at 7:00 pm at the Police Community Room. The address is 300 L Street in Antioch. If you'd like to come, please call Dineen Burdick at 925-864-0808 to reserve a space. The orientation will go over all the details of the Youth Intervention Network, and what types of training and volunteer options are available. I think you will find the information really interesting. I am also attaching a brief overview of the work to this post that you can look over at your leisure.
Have a good evening!

Crime is the problem in Antioch, not racism. When I go to the store I'm not worried about being called racial slurs, im worried about being attacked by a bunch of people with chips on their shoulder. Race has nothing to do with it, these ghetto people are just raised with no morals. It doesn't matter what color they happen to be.

Yesterday after I logged off I drove to the Supermarket to pick up some food for dinner, as I was walking in a guy was standing out front soliciting his new CD. I pulled out my shopping list and handed it to him.....then I asked if had anything on that list. He said no, So I shook my head and kept walking. When I walked out he asked me again So I stopped and bought the CD for 5 dollars...whatever, then I broke it in half and threw it in the trash right infront of him. I told him to never ask me to buy a cd again. He said cool, and just kept asking people as they walked in. I have to give it up to him for not sitting on his [bleep] and collecting a check (thats why I paid him) but c'mon.

That was the affect I was going for. After he asked me the second time to purchase a CD I took it as him being rude to me. So I returned the favor. You see...I have no compassion for [bleep] people. Yes, I agree it was rude I would have handled it the same way if the girlscouts kept on asking me to buy cookies...Their parents should teach them that when someone says no, Dont keep asking them over and over again. That is rude and very annoying. :)

Did I miss something? Did the kid tell you that he didn't have a job, or did you assume that because he was peddling his music that he didn't. The reason I ask is that I know another young guy that sells his music on the street, but he uses his job to earn money to buy the studio time he needs to lay down the tracks. Then he uses the money from his job, after he pays his bills to buy blank cd's, covers, and supplies needed to print labels. Then he goes out on the street and sells his music for exposure.
Just wondering if you asked him why he was selling music outside of the grocery store.

First of all it wasnt a kid, second I do agree that it cost money for studio time, but maybe if this guy pulled out his guitar and set out a hat and let the music sell itself then maybe he would be more successful in selling his CD. Iris, surely you are not condoning the selling of items without a City Business License, BOE Resale Permit, the collection and paying of sales taxes to the BOE (and ultimately to the city), the filing of a Ficticious Business Name, and lastly, filing CA Form 540 and IRS form 1040, along with Schedule C (business)?
And if either this individual or, if a minor, are receiving any county, state or federal benefits that they are reporting that income which could impact their eligibility for those programs.

No Arne, not at all. The point I was making is that the poster operated off of assumptions. We have no idea if this kid has a business license or pays taxes, because nobody asked. My point is that we have to stop making assumptions, and take the time to talk with folks and get information before we jump to conclusions. Maybe he is doing something illegal, and maybe not. The point is nobody asked.

Iris said "My point is that we have to stop making assumptions, and take the time to talk with folks and get information before we jump to conclusions."
Iris, somehow we've become an overly assumptive society! Every day of my life is full of assumptions. From the guy that flips me off because he assumes I cut him off on purpose, to the back teller who asks for I.D. because she assumes I stole somebody's wallet, to the vendor who wants cash because he assumes I'm going to write him a bad check, to the store clerk who holds my $20 bill up to the light because he assumes I'm a counterfeiter, to the grocery checker who asks to see my license because she assumes I'm an underage punk trying to buy booze, to the big box home improvement retailer who assumes I'm a saint and will ring up all the items I'm buying and pay for them using the self check-out. (What's up with that last one? It doesn't seem to fit). Why is there so much assumption going on these days???
As is usually the case, one can only presume it has something to do with people's bad behavior.

Am I to assume, if I talk to and ask questions, that someone who is doing things against the law will tell me the truth? It is sometimes hard to read peoples faces. Especially people like BJ. He always has that patch over his eye. Or Stoney with the beard? Is that to hide the smirk or just the embarassment?

I believe Stoney's beard is to hide his embarrassment so people don't point at him and say, "Look Everyone! He's Blushing!" He made that quite clear.
As for the eyepatch, that's from an injury sustained by over cooking while using the Progressive Brand Polypropylene Egg and Bacon Microwavable Sandwich Maker. I thought I made that quite clear.

That is a flat out lie. Go back to your drawing board and include rape, domestic violence, spousal and elder abuse, child abuse, sexual crimes against minors, and mass murders. You will get a very realistic picture of what violence looks like in this country.
You can have your opinions, that's your business, but don't lie. And for those of us who prefer fact based arguments, credible stats and real legitimate research is preferred.

Fact: Most of the victims were black.
Fact: Most of the shooters were black.

You said 97% of violent crimes are committed by people of one color. That implies ALL violent crimes, everywhere, and in all categories. That is what you said, and that is a lie. However as to your other statement, working on and implementing solutions is exactly what I do, and I too share a concern for the African-American community. So, what exactly is it you do to try and help? That is not an ill intended question. I really do want to know because if you are getting positive results and are helping youth become productive successful citizens, I'd like to know about it.

Wow KimballKid this thread really took off!
I am here to happily report that I had another successful crime prevention patrol last night. I decided to go under cover and blend in with the scum of antioch so I decided to get really intoxicated before I set out. I only had one incident at the James Donolan park that I almost didn't notice because I was driving 50mph over the speed limit.
It was a group of teenagers looking like they were about to get into trouble. Of course I drew my gun and asked them what they were doing and they said nothing. Then they said they got money from their parents to go on a grocery run for alcohol and ciggarretes. I told them I could assist and drove the teenagers to the 7-11 to purchase beer and smokes. They told me to drop them back off at the park where I found them and they assured me they were going back to their parents house. Thanks to me everyone here can enjoy another nice, safe and beautiful day. You are welcome Antioch.

I think Sobe was trying to illustrate a point by posting a youtube video in an attempt to hurt my feelings.
